Susaday!
This is my first word I’ve learned in Khemur, the native language here in Battambang, it means “hello!”
Though this is only one of two words I know in Khemur, it has brought a lot of joy to me. I think it’s because I’m a foreigner in a completely different culture and I’m just so excited to learn more about the community and culture that I will be diving into these next two months. The way I would put it is that I feel just like the kids I got to meet yesterday, so many of them and full of energy. I will be taking part in teaching the children here English during the week and teaching during Sunday school. Most of the kids know very little English, but a few have been studying for a couple years and can have a full conversation with us. They get so excited to talk with us and to use their English, so I guess that’s why I can relate. I feel just like them, even though I know this one word, I just want to run around with them and enjoy their presence. The adults at the markets probably think I’m a little weird because I look like a kid running around repeating “Susaday! Susaday!” and that’s all I know, but the people here are so nice and they smile back and say “Susaday.”
Connection!!! That’s it! Just this one word helps me connect to these people and brings me just that much closer to introducing them to Jesus. Man, I can not wait to share Jesus with this community!
