When I was applying for the race, I saw under the financial description that part of our funds were to cover the land, air and sea fare. Ever since then I've been obsessed with the idea of traveling by sea. I even said that I would be okay if a man paddled me in a canoe. Well, it happened. I wasn't on a canoe but I was being paddled up a creek on a raft, and by raft I mean a piece of styrofoam with boards nailed to the top.  I got to go to a feeding Thursday and ride on a raft with Ate Flora and a man named Danny who stood up and paddled us up a creek between houses on stilts that looked like house boats due to flooding from typhoons months ago and still flooded. We paddled up to the houses and they handed us bowls while I got to scoop them soupy rice with veggies for them to share with their families. It was the coolest thing I've got to do but a very humbling experience because as cool as it was to be on a raft and in this location with beautiful scenery, what seems ideal for photography pics…this is their life. This is a meal for them. This is Christ's love. We were hands and feet. Yes it makes for a cool photo and yes it was awesome to say I traveled by sea, but realistically…I need to try not to lose sight of the true "picture" and that is people in need.
