So, we made it to the Philippines after 51 hours of traveling! And I think most of the squad is caught up on sleep from jet lag. I wanted to tell you a little about where we are and what we’re doing. We are beyond blessed this month!!! I feel such a spiritual calm and easiness here. PEACE.
We are staying and working with KIM Ministries, Kids International Ministries. You should def check out their website: www.kidsim.org and see what all it entails. But to give you a quick overview: we are staying at the YunJin Lyso Ministry Center which is basically like a huge frat house. I share a room with the other 4 girls on my team, in the upstairs of a housing unit…with bunk beds and normal bathroom! Like for real normal! And all the other teams are split up between rooms. There is a common room upstairs and down, couple pool tables, kitchen, weight room, salon which I’ll explain in a minute. And it connects by a breezeway and terrace to another housing unit same setup. The salon is a place for the J Salon workers to come and make money by doing nails, hair and massages…and needless to say we all kept them in business the first few days straight through. But the contact, Jeff Long, has a daughter named Josie who trained these filipino women so that they can support themselves so of course we had no problem supporting them 🙂
There is also a children’s library here, and more projects in the works. Throughout YMC (YunJin Lyso Ministry Center) we connect with multiple of their ministries.
One is JAS Home and its where “Josie’s Angels” live. Its a girls home and all of the women from the squad will be taking shifts there for the next 6 weeks and pouring into these young girls who have been taken out of some extremely traumatic situations. Also, theres the Children’s Garden and that is the boys home. Then they have a Children’s Home which is for girls and boys and in that, they have a nursery which we will also all as a squad be covering shifts there. The babies are precious. Can’t wait to start taking pictures. They need 24 hour workers there so I believe we will be taking 8 hour shifts and some overnights as a team! Sunday night me and 2 teammates are going to be house moms at the girls home…slumber party! And also, they have feedings here at YMC and we as a whole team (the 5 girls and 2 guys) are going to sign up for some feedings so we can find team time.
Unlike other months, majority of the squad (the 46) are living here together with the 2 old squad leaders during their last 3 weeks with us and then with the 3 new squad leaders. And normally its one or two teams together. So one thing we have to do this month is be a lot more intentional with our time and make time to get to know our team, especially because this is a new team!
That tells you a little bit about what the next 6 weeks will look like. I’m excited to have more blogs to come about relationships and the fruits of these next few weeks.
Blessings from Philippines.
