God speaks and void takes form. God speaks and earth and water are created. God speaks and dirt is given life. God speaks and death is conquered.
The rain pours on us from the sky today; a refreshing reminder of the cleansing Christ has done and is doing on my heart and on all of our hearts here in Palenque, Mexico. The deep greens of the landscape are vibrant and life pours out from all of creation; proclaiming God’s name.
Yesterday we experienced a beautiful Sabbath with our Lord. After a 2 day long (mostly bus ride) race* down to Palenque from Matamoros we were all eager for refreshment. Sunday morning we piled into vans and drove an hour to a small community on the edge of Palenque for church.
We arrived to a small concrete building, painted white and full of people worshiping God. There were people everywhere; small people with tanned skin, dark hair and deep soulful eyes. I’ve learned that smiles go a long way, especially when “hello” is about the only thing you can communicate with words. And even then, not all the people there spoke Spanish, a dialect called Ch´ul was almost as common among the people.
God’s spirit rained down on us that afternoon. From the spoken Word to the song, to the humble service we received from the host – He poured out on us. And this is only the beginning, only a taste of what He has in store for us for the rest of the year!

After the service
Seth insisted we go see the most beautiful waterfalls he’s ever seen. They were pretty amazing, to say the least. The water just kept pouring over continual shelves of stone, creating almost a maze of waterfalls with pools of deep tourquois just begging to be swam in. So we swam for the rest of the afternoon, exploring the falls and just soaking in the beauty of creation. God’s goodness poured on us, literally.
God speaks and my heart is forever changed.
“O Lord our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth.” Psalms 8:9
