Our lives are often filled with hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Most would agree that the future holds something big and that they look forward to and dream about that everyday. Questions like: what will I do tomorrow, when am I going to find that perfect 9-5, who will I marry, what kind of house will I live in, etc. are the ones that run through our heads. Most often when we dream like that, the answers and pictures that come to mind are: I am going to get up and do the same thing I did today, tomorrow, you end up with a decent paying job as an assistant for a local business owner, you get the woman/man of your dreams or maybe you just settle, and you end up living in a little cute house with a white picket fence.

For me, those used to be my thoughts but then I developed a relationship with the Lord and He called me to international missions. At first, I still dreamt about those things but then I progressively started changing my thoughts trip after trip. It wasn’t until this past week that I was really sure that stuff like the World Race is really what the Lord has called me to. My team and I are doing a lot of projects around our compound and one is painting a picket fence, white. I will say, it is not an easy task and every time we know that it is time to go paint the fence we know no one really wants to do it. However, the Lord has really used that task to show me what I truly desire and that my desires are not illogical, they are a little crazy and a little wild but that is kind of what happens when you follow the Lord. The Lord knows the desires of our hearts and he will fulfill them but they might not always look like we thought they would or how we would want them. So, if the “typical” life is what you dream of, the Lord knows that and He will grant it but if your “ typical” is a little but out there like doing the world race or international missions long term He will grant that as well. I believe one of the best parts of life and life following the Lord is never knowing what it is really going to look like and how He is going to use us each day.
