February 22nd
Oooo, shoot I am getting chills just writing this.
Ok so as many of you know, last month in Colombia was wild. God opened doors and did some crazy good stuff.
Our squad went to a school in Colombia and ministered there .
This was the first time this school had ever allowed missionaries to come inside their school.
Shoot God- you are breaking ground and it’s crazy to see you do it.
At this school we did an activity called “The Power of Words.” Basically this is when we ask the students to write down a negative word or words that has affected their life, a lie they have believed about themself or something someone spoke over them. After that we speak about the truths of God to them- then together we rip the paper that has those words or lies written on it signifying that we are no longer gonna walk in those words anymore but choosing freedom to walk in the truths of God.
While we were in Cuenca, every Friday night we led youth night. Some of us felt like the Lord wanted us to do this activity with the youth in Cuenca.
The whole day while planning for this , I felt the Holy Spirits presence.
I just knew He was gonna do big things- but had no idea what to expect because with Him, there’s no boundaries.
While planning I told Val, it would be cool if this time we could have cards with a word written on it and a scripture inside for them to read. We went and got cards and Val did the translation, Em wrote the scriptures inside the cards and I prayed over every card. Before choosing the scriptures we prayed for the Lord to highlight words and scriptures to us. One of us would start to read a scripture and another one of us would finish it because we were on the SAME scripture. And this happened several times.
The Holy Spirit was already moving.
That night Nikki led a teaching about the “power of words.” You see words can bring us life and even death (Proverbs 18:21). We don’t realize how our words affect others and how even what we speak over ourselves affect us.
Ultimately we have to choose freedom in believing the truths of God. Which comes from scripture.
After the teaching , Shelby and Maci shared how the power of words has had an affect on their lives.
When I got up to lead the activity I had no idea what I was gonna say but before I knew it words were flowing from my mouth and I was preaching to these kids.
Welp it wasn’t me.
It was the Holy Spirit speaking through me.
I can’t even remember what I said because they weren’t my words but HIS.
During this, my heart was hoping that, that night they would choose to walk boldly and freely in Jesus.
The kids took some time to reflect and write their word down. When they were ready they could come to the front and choose a new word- and it wasn’t words from our team, they were words from God, scripture based, God breathed, words that were prayed over , a word God had specifically for them.
Before I knew it kids were coming up and choosing their word- leaving the old one and the lies behind.
I knew the Lord wanted me to do an alter call, He said to me , “Laurie someone here needs salvation.”
I was afraid to get up there and speak that , especially if I was wrong.
But I did it anyway.
Here’s what God did.
“C” 15 years old accepted Christ.
“J” 14 years old came forward and said he wanted his heart to be changed.
“P” asked for a relationship with Christ.
“N” said she hadn’t felt the Lord’s presence in 2 years and had been praying for that and felt His presence that night.
Others wanted to feel loved, wanted to feel important.
We prayed over these youth.
Their vulnerability was truly beautiful.
I could say more but why don’t you just watch it for yourself.
