I have a mind that is both a blessing and maybe a tiny bit of a curse depending on the setting. It goes about a million miles a minute and very rarely slows down. Always in different places and all over at the same time. Every thing is interesting for at least a few minutes and most things are interesting enough to keep coming back to. Never a dull moment in my head. To keep track of at least a few of things I think of when I’m sitting on a bus, can’t fall asleep, in the middle of a conversation, or anywhere else really, I’ve started to take notes on my phone. A LOT of notes. One of favorites to add to is a list of adjectives (honestly some are probably nouns… haven’t been in an English class for a while, though, so who knows) to describe someone’s character. Currently, the list is up to 57 words (some synonyms but still worth writing down).
The list was mostly just words I’d liked when someone had said them while telling me about someone they really really admired. Words I hope to be described as and strive to exemplify at least in some small way. Lots of them I could read over and think “Yea no not me. Probably not ever me.” Tragic.
I read in one of my favorite books, “the great divide is not between those who are artists and those who are not, but between those who understand that they are creative and those who have become convinced that they are not.” Great things have a way of inspiring us and, simultaneously, a way of subtly diminishing us.
Kind of a sad way to look at so many wonderful things but I think that’s the position lots of people take and speak over themselves about a variety of different things. Beauty, creativity, achievements, intellect, I could go on. It’s terribly easy to look at what others around you possess and simply accept that you could never be those things.
The last time I looked at the list of those words, I added what the Lord was very clearly speaking to me at that moment. It wasn’t another adjective, rather it was “I see you as all of these things.”
!!!!!
Whether you know it or not, whether you know HIM or not, the good Father is constantly and consistently speaking truth and praise over you. Always. Literally every second of the day.
I looked into the actual definitions of some of my favorite words. Putting more concrete explanations to each word made them so much more powerful because lots of them have much deeper and impactful meanings than I had originally thought and the Lord STILL speaks them over you and I both. Here’s all of those words along with the few definitions I’ve gathered. Read as few or as many as you want.
