In the restaurant industry there are periods we often refer to as “The Rush”…. It’s the moment and period of the day where it’s chaos, overwhelming, everything is hitting at once, and you’re just trying to keep your head above water.
Rewind to the other day. We had just gotten through the rush at work. I looked over at someone and with a huge breath proclaimed “We survived!” They agreed and said “Oh, we always do and we always come out the other side, it’s just when you’re in the middle of it that sucks.”
I thought about that for a moment and felt a potential blog post brewing.
How applicable is this to our own lives?
How many times do we find ourselves in our own rush? A trial or circumstance where we find ourselves overwhelmed. When we’re in the thick of it and it’s when we’re in the middle of it that “sucks”…. we feel like we’re drowning and we don’t see how we’ll come out the other side. Things are coming at us from all directions and we’re just in need of a huge shield to combat it all when the stress and the weight of it seems too big for us to take on.
I thought back on own periods of my life where I was in the rush, when I was right smack dab in the middle of it…. I begin to have this picture in my mind where it was like I was out in the middle of the ocean, the waves are roaring, the waters are deep, current is rough, I’m treading water and I’m just in need of someone to throw out a life preserver, and bring me back to shore.
Jesus. He is the preserver. The one we can clinge to. He’s the one who parted the seas and he is the one who can surely calm the waters.
So I ask you, what is your rush that you might currently be facing today that is leaving you defeated, tired, and ready to give up? What waters might you be treading?
That preserver. It’s there. Take it.
The rush. We might find many of those in our lives. But it’s in the middle where we find him.
