I met a friend for breakfast this morning. It was actually another local former World Racer and it has been so so fun getting to know her and talk about her experience and get encouragement and advice.
At this particular place when you place your order they ask you a question and then call your answer so you know when your order is ready for you to come up and get it. It’s gotten to the point that I literally will find what the question is before I even place my order, usually written on board, ha, so I can start thinking of my answer. I don’t like being put on the spot, HAHA! They have a question of the week, and this particular week it was “If your life had an intro song, what would it be?”
I LOVED THIS QUESTION!
Usually it’s like what is your favorite Disney character or some lame question like that, ha…. But this, I could get on board with.
My 80s music lovin’ heart immediately said “Eye of the Tiger”…. Obviously you think of the movie Rocky III. This song was a hit and rooted in pop culture to this day. I mean that song, it just has that perfect long intro beat before the lyrics start that just makes you feel like you can take on anything. Whenever I hear it, it just makes my heart happy and before I know it my car volume is turned up and I’m just belting it. So it didn’t surprise me that was the first song to come to my mind in answer to that question.
When you hear this song and think of the phrase, “I’ve found the eye of the tiger,” you are talking about someone who is focused, the feeling of confidence or internal power and strength, and has the look of being intense, somewhat cold but very fierce with a never say die attitude.
In the wild, seeing the “eyes” of the tiger signifies death, because right before a tiger attacks, it turns its ears forward so that the spot on the back of each ear faces nearer its prey. The “eye spots” on the back of tigers’ ears serve to confuse predators and reduce the risk of attack from behind. Hence, once someone sees these “eyes”, the tiger is about to attack.
When you have the “Eye Of The Tiger”, you are believing that you can and just like the Tiger, you WILL! The Eye of the Tiger phrase has become a powerful call of action to anyone who is facing a challenge and seeking motivation to strive for their goals.
Whatever season we might find ourselves in (or in my case coming into with the World Race trip), whatever mountain might seem insurmountable, the challenges, dreams or goals ahead of us…
May we go after it with the eye of the tiger.
