These past couple of weeks have been a blur from leaving Nicaragua and the relationships we built there and transitioning to living in Costa Rica.
In Nicaragua I enjoyed the slow pace of life we lived at the orphanage, surrounded by kids, goats, and chickens. Going into It I thought it would be a lot easier, but I quickly realized that living in a foreign country with 15 other people that you just met is way harder then it looks. God stretched me in different ways, letting me see my identity in him and lean on him more. As challenging as leaving was, change has been refreshing and much needed.
We had a couple of days of debrief to relax and get rest before going to a 3 day conference called Awakening. It was held in the mountains of Costa Rica and was for all world racers in the area, which was about 150 people. Words can’t even describe how amazing it was. Awakening truly represented what the Bible means when it says that we are all the body of Christ working together. It was a time of fellowship, teachings, healing, worship and most importantly renewal. It was so refreshing to connect with others, and hear about their struggles and triumphs so far on the race.
I was chosen to be a leader for the intercession group, which focused on prayer. Taking charge is not something I am used to, so helping organize a teaching session and taking initiative was challenging but rewarding. Overall the conference untied us more as a team and encouraged us in our relationship with Christ and the purpose of our journey.
Currently we are on our second week of ministry in San Jose. We work with an organization called Connexion, which does a number of different things around the area. Besides helping our ministry hosts Beth and Jherson with organization, we have gone to local schools and churches to set up games and hangout with the kids there, and worked with refugees from Nicaragua. Our ministry days sometimes start early in the morning and don’t end until 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
I am learning to be present and see God in the small things, whether it’s the smile on a kids face when they play a game or worshiping around a campfire with my team. Through saying yes to God, everyday becomes an adventure.
