Adventures In Missions, the incredible organization that the World Race functions under, had an event this past week called “The Awakening.” Two squads, both on their last leg of this journey, equally exhausted and worn out, came together to worship and be poured into. We were able to come together under a big white tent and open our eyes to the areas that we had fallen asleep in. It was a blast. We played games, shared meals, worshipped our father, swapped stories, and talked a lot about what it means to die to ourselves and live for the kingdom of heaven that is breaking through on this earth.
One of the things that grabbed my attention during the first session was the idea that we live in an “instant gratification” society while Gods promises require us to “linger longer”. We are so used to everything being microwaved in under three minutes, but Gods promises cannot be tossed in the microwave. I think one of the reasons that we lose faith in God is because we are so caught up our own schedule that we think He is a liar when His timing doesn’t line up with ours. For example, He could promise that He will mend a relationship in our lives…. but instead of clinging to that promise and waiting for His response, we wait a total of one week and write it off as a forgotten prayer.
The enemy loves to tell us that Gods promises won’t come through. One of the biggest tools that he uses is selling us on promises that God never actually said in scripture. Yes God says that He will answer when we call upon Him. But No, He doesn’t give us a time line or tell us that by the end of the year everything will be worked out in our favor. When the doubts begin to creep in, that is when we must stand up and say “hey God, even though I don’t see what you’re doing I trust in who you are and I know that you will stay true to your word.”
I learned that when we trust God we can be 100000000% sure that His promises will come true. In fact the answer to all of His promises are already “yes” and “amen”. But, sadly for our little impatient hearts, He never promises when He will reveal things to us. He could reveal his plan in 2 days or 20 years, but none of that matters because He is who He says He is. His words are not empty.
The world tell us so many things. Our microwaved hot pocket society is quick to move on to the next trendy thing, but God is calling us to linger in His presence. Because when we wait upon the Lord He will show is the most beautiful peices of His heart and His plan for us. Sitting still is hard, being silent and carving out time of our packed schedules is a sacrifice. But life spent in the presence of the Lord is rich and abundant and full of beauty and opportunity.

Chichicastenango update- Our four teams have been rotatating through teaching at a nearby school and leading small groups. Next week we are working with our host Juan to serve the police men in the community. Earlier in the week we partnered with the police to plant 700 trees !!! We have a lot of time to spend growing in community this month which is a nice way to end the race. There is a constant game of banana grams going on in the kitchen and usually a discussion about the enneagram happening outside in our eno village that we have created. Saturday night bonfires are also becoming a special tradition around here. Living with 21 girls is something else but I wouldn’t trade this time for anything. The countdown to home is ticking away! Prayers for our ministry and last few weeks on the field are appreciated and heard. Thanks for reading and following along with this journey!!
