You know how when you’re looking at a sailboat on the horizon it doesn’t look like it’s moving, but then you look away for a few minutes and all of the sudden it is in a completely new place? That’s what the past month was like.
And I almost missed it all….
Our team is in Bangkok, Thailand for a few days in order to reflect on Cambodia, rest, and prepare for what’s to come. Our team was spending some time reflecting on Cambodia and I was feeling like we hadn’t come very far. I was ready to get up and leave the meeting when my teammate Sarah gave me some feedback.
P.S feedback is a time where we celebrate each other’s strengths and point out places where there is potential for growth.
Sarah told me that she sensed I was being held back by my expectations. She challenged me to look back to the beginning of our race and see how much our team had grown. It was a beautiful thing to look up and see that the sailboat was miles down the horizon. I was too busy staring at the same thing that I almost never looked up to rejoice in the growth that had taken place in the past month.
Our leadership team has been speaking to us about vulnerability this week. By being vulnerable we may have to take off the mask that we are putting on for others, but we receive so much freedom it changes everything !!!
So since i’m already talking about sailboats and vulnerability, i’m going to share a poem that the Lord gave me about how we can be sailboats, useless unless the spirit moves us. (Something else about being vulnerable is that it looks different for everyone. For someone who struggles with discernment and hates poetry, this is it).
Father, make me a sailboat
My sails lifeless & heavy & cumbersome
But You,
Light, air, breath
You give my sails purpose
You move me, push me
We sail
I am your vessel
Empty me, wipe me clean
But I won’t stay empty
No
Your spirit will fill me
We’ll sail away
P.S
God is always speaking to us in new ways and a really cool resource is our unconscious mind. “Bible.is” is an app where you can listen to scripture, sometimes when we aren’t even processing what is being said, knowledge is being stored in our brains.
