I didn’t sign up to sit in an ICU with a sick teammate.
I didn’t sign up to fall on my knees in desperate prayer after hearing that a squadmate became paralyzed in a car accident.
I didn’t sign up to NOT be at my dear great aunt’s funeral.
I didn’t sign up to literally feel the earth move under my feet for 30 seconds and watch terror flash across the eyes of Nepalese children.
I didn’t sign up to live in a “chaotic normal” while everyone around us is terrified of the next possible quake or aftershock.
However, the Lord knew about ALL of these events before the foundation of the earth. Nothing comes as a surprise to Him. Ever.
Yes, World Racers, we are not professionals. Most of us have never rescued someone out of a crumbling building. Most of us have never lived through or experienced a natural disaster.
We may not be professionals, but we are professors. We profess Christ, His death, and resurrection. We have the most powerful Spirit, the Holy Spirit, living inside of us. We are equipped for every good work He has prepared for us.
Good works can range from helping the little lady with a broken foot cross the street…to using your skills and talents to provide medical care to a wounded child. You may give a little extra to that taxi driver. You may stop and pray for the woman who doesn’t know where she and her childrn will sleep that night.
P Squad, you were made for these moments. There is always Hope because He is always with us.
I know sleep is difficult to come by.
I know fear can show up at any time.
I know some us want to go home.
I know most of us want normalcy.
However, are we trusting in the comfort of this world or the promises of God?
When you are weary: “Come to me all who are weary and burdened…and I will give you rest.”
When you are frustrated: “Put on compassion and brotherly love.”
When you are afraid: “When I am afraid, I will trust in You “
When you are sad: “I bind up the brokenhearted.”
When you are anxious: “Be anxious for nothing…but in prayer and supplication, make your requests known to God.”
For those of you reading who are considering the Race…I want you to count the cost. The cost of discipleship is high. Whoever desires to save His life must lose it. The beauty of the World Race lies in the strength, perseverance, and resilience of its members….not in the adventures, shopping, and sight seeing. Yes, we can enjoy those things.
I came on the Race to grow in compassion for others. To love the lost in the nations. To share the Gospel. I am by no means a professional in any of those things. In fact, I fail almost daily. However, where I am weak, He makes me strong. His power is made perfect in weakness.
Don’t give up. The story is so far from over.
