A Slice of Humble Pie

I just had some delicious apple pie last night. I always look forward to the autumnal apple pie. As I was thinking about what to write for my third blog entry, the word “humility” came to my mind multiple times. Particularly, the idea of what it means to be humble, and to be humbled. Christ gives us the ultimate example of humility as Paul describes in his letter to the Philippians:

Philippians 2:6-8 (ESV)

Who, being in very naturea]”>[a] God,     did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;rather, he made himself nothing     by taking the very natureb]”>[b] of a servant,     being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,    he humbled himself    by becoming obedient to death—         even death on a cross!

He was obedient to death. I can only pray and ask for grace that I would be obedient unto death, if necessary.

Training Camp gave me a big slice of “humble pie”. I learned that my secret longing for a leadership position had turned into an idol. I learned that God wanted to teach me something in this season of being a plain and simple follower. (It is not that the leaders don’t follow…I just don’t have any “special” leadership positions). However, the Lord has used this reality to mold me, shape me, and remind me that the ultimate focus of the World Race is Jesus Christ, His Gospel, and the people that need to be reached. So, I am thankful. I press on. J

After training camp, the Lord also humbled me in astounding ways. He did so especially through donations from family, friends, and even strangers. My home church graciously offered to host a concert & dessert benefit night for me. I was able to share with 80 people how the Lord had brought me to the World Race and His heart for the nations. It was an encouraging time that also allowed for me to raise about $5000 in one night. To God be the glory! I am beyond thankful.

I look forward to watching God work over the next 7 weeks (less than 2 months until launch/January 8th), in wondrous ways. I have an India visa to obtain, vaccinations to endure, packing to begin, and documents to be completed…oh, and college from which to graduate. The Lord is good and He will help me though it all.

BIG news: Our route has changed. We will no longer be going to Chile. Instead, as of now, here is our new route (subject to change again):

Ecuador

Peru

Bolivia

India

Nepal

Malaysia

Thailand

Cambodia

Vietnam

Malawi

Zambia

I am thankful for each one of you. Your investment has a guarantee on return.

Prayer requests:

That I will be fully funded by January 8th, 2015 (only approx. $5000 to go!)

For my team, that we will bond and unite quickly and beautifully. Please pray for each of Team Fierce!

For my health (and that of everyone else on my squad/team)

For preparation to go smoothly.

For a special and rich time with friends and family during the Thanksgiving/Christmas/my birthday season-my last time with many people before I leave for 11 months.

Most important: for the Lord to continue to strengthen my heart and passion for Him-so that it will be overflowing to everyone I encounter. That He will be my vision.

In Christ Alone,

Lauren
