Yahweh gives me beautiful visions and thoughts.
They come at the most unexpected of times, but they come at the times in which I need them the most. A couple of days before the launch of the Race, the realization of me leaving the States for a year was beginning to dawn on me; panic weaseled its way into my mind over the fact that a year is a long time to be away.
But then He gave me a vision. As I was laying my head down to sleep one night, He showed me a girl sitting on a mountaintop. The girl was gazing out over the mountain where she could see for miles and miles. She was holding an open umbrella in her hand, as if she was about to float away with it. This vision has been entering my thoughts a lot lately, so I tried dissecting the meaning behind it.
My favorite movie is The Sound of Music, and I love it for so many reasons. One of the reasons is the fact that Julie Andrews stars in it. She is brilliant; she makes my ears, heart, and soul so happy. She also stars in the movie, Mary Poppins, one of my favorite childhood movies. As a child, I fell asleep listening to Julie Andrews sing “Spoonful of Sugar” on tape cassette. But do you remember the first time we see Mary Poppins make her entrance in the movie? She is floating down on a cloud with her suitcase and umbrella in tow. These two items held such power in the development of the movie; she could pull anything she needed out of her suitcase and her umbrella took her wherever she was needed.
World Racers are a little like Mary Poppins. The LORD, our guiding force, has equipped us with our “suitcases”-the Bible, and our “umbrellas”-the Holy Spirit. He gives us everything we need through His Word and the Spirit guides us to those who need to hear of His love and grace. We go to the places where Jesus is needed and we stay long enough to plant a seed of Truth in the hearts of the people. When we travel to the next country, we leave the fruition of faith up to Him and His followers.
Not only does that girl sitting on the mountaintop symbolize the venturesome World Racers, but it should also represent every believer. Our outlook of telling others about Jesus’ life and death should be one of passionate longing, just as the girl wistfully gazed out over the mountain to a broken world. Our umbrellas should always be open so that He may send us wherever He calls us.
God has provided us with everything we need in order to tell people of His sacrifice on the cross and His invitation for repentant hearts. All it takes is an adventurous imagination and a willing heart!
