9 hours later my team, and the three other Haiti teams have finally made it to Haiti, though not to our ministry contacts yet. And oh man, for an introductory world race travel day, this was a good one, well a learning one. 30 something of us squeezed into a Love bus, like literally a love bus with pink polyester curtains, with all of our big packs in a trailer behind us, and all of our other packs jammed in the bus with us. It was a little like sardines in a can, but fun none the less. It was amazing getting such a tour of the country, and I even got to watch Book of Eli for the first time, and let me just tell you, I loved it.
A couple hours into the drive we had some sort of brake problems, so we had a momentary detour as we all got off and chilled in this random neighborhood. As soon as I got off, God just laid this heart for captives in that area, and I spent all of our time sitting on the curb and praying for the area, the neighborhood, and all of the people we saw or who saw us. I just immediately felt this presence having a hold over them and all I kept hearing, and then praying for was for God to set the captives free. By the time I left I felt a peace, and was just thankful for a chance to intimately hear the voice of God, and a chance to pray specifically for people and a place I would’ve otherwise never known of.
The rest of the ride was pretty sweaty, and after our brakes we fixed we were running a little bit behind for the border closing at 6. We got there just after 6 and were there for quite a while, thankfully Aaron, one of the aim logistic people who was bringing us to Haiti handled that whole shady and stressful situation so well, and eventually we made into Haiti with all of our people stuff and cockroach friends we had made in the bus. Oh yes, I said cockroaches. And before aaaaallllll of you who know me start imagining a great freak out and laughing away, know that I handled it pretty well….ish. I mean, granted when I realized that the tickling on my ankle was in fact a nice brown cockroach exploring my leg, I did flail a little, and there may or may not have been a little shriek and announcing of said friend, but otherwise I chilled, keeping a watchful eye for more amigos.
Cockroach or no cockroach we are indeed here, at a Christian compound of sorts, were we will be staying for the night and then we will spread out to our various missionary sites tomorrow. We were blessed with an amazing dinner and there are quite a few different missionaries and Haitian here who are friendly and hospitable. I am loving life and CANNOT wait to see what God had in store for us tomorrow.
Love love to all of you at home, missing you like crazy!
