We finally met up with the second half of our team today! Even though we were only apart for about 2 days, we were feeling the split heavily. All of our small groups were split apart because of the way the flights worked out. After picking them up from the airport in Jo-bug, we got 2 taxi busses that took us to our training location (I forget the name of the city, but it’s just NE of the capital city of Mbabane). It’s an absolutely awesome house with lots and lots of bunk beds, a kitchen, and even a few bathrooms. We are staying with the January WR team. 80 people living in one house is quite a sight to be had. I still haven’t quite figured out how this is going to work.
The January WRers have been incredibly welcoming. They were standing outside cheering as we pulled in the driveway in our busses. They made name tags, welcome signs, goodie bags, and other fun treats for us. We will spend the next 2-ish weeks in Swazi having our final training session. I think we are staying here the rest of the month, but honestly don’t really know. Such is life.
Africa is not exactly what I expected. I think I was subconsciously picturing a scene from
The Lion King: vast savannahs with grazing zebras, gazelles, and the like. As we drove east in S. Africa to Swaziland, the landscape honestly looked like the Eastern part of Colorado with flat land and some evergreen trees. Once we crossed the border into Swazi, we began to drive into the foothills. Almost everything about Swazi reminds me of Jamaica. It’s awesome! The colors, the architecture, and the landscape all bring me back to my second home in Mandeville. It’s absolutely wonderful and completely refreshing.
Internet is painfully slow/hard to access. I’ll post when I can. I’ll probably keep writing blogs and just post multiple ones when I can.
Peace and love.
