As we were driving out to one of the provinces of Cambodia, the pickup truck we were riding in pulled off the road to a roadside restaurant so we could grab some breakfast. Little did I know what I would end up eating that morning.

We hoped out of the back of the truck and were instantly “greeted” by a swarm of women trying to sell us various foodstuffs- mangos, bananas, pineapple, and grilled, Philistine-sized tarantulas.

One of my goals for this year has been to try unusual things to eat when they are presented to me, so I figured this was one of those times. I paid 1000 Riel (about 25 cents) and was the proud owner of my very own spider. The only problem was, I had trouble even picking it up, let alone chewing on its hairy legs.

I’ll let this video tell the rest of the story.
