Greetings from Nepal!

My team and I have been here a week and have LOVED it! I wanted to give you a taste of life here so far and then a glimpse of what my team and I will be doing for the rest of the month…..enjoy!!

Himalayas in the distance

The view from the top of our housing for the week is spectacular especially after a rainstorm when the smog clears out. That is when I was able to see the snow-capped Himalayas – BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Want some Momo?

This is a popular dish enjoyed here….imagine a potsticker filled with meat or veggies either fried or steamed. That is what momo is. But because the cow is sacred here, the meat of choice after chicken is ‘buff’ or buffalo. Interesting! This plate of veg. momo was 80 Nepali rupees – about 80 cents. Tasty AND affordable!!!

No shower Nepal?

Let’s just say if you have hot running water BE THANKFUL! This is not the case everywhere. And when the temperature dips down to below 40 degrees you wish you had easily accessible hot water. None the less I have enjoyed having to heat up my hot water on a gas stove, pouring it into a bucket and then adding cold water for my bucket shower (to which I have only taken 2!). But the good news is that I don’t sweat at all here because of the temperature so baby wipes have worked well at keeping me clean between bucket showers. HA!!!!!

Yak wool is SO WARM!

My teammate Kayla was dead set on buying a yak wool scarf to which I was like, I already have 2 scarves. But upon trying it on, putting around my shoulders and seeing how warm it was, I caved in and bought one. This has been one of the best decisions of the race!! It’s SO unbelievable warm and also acts as a blanket too!

Narrow streets and friendly faces

We walk quite a bit here and I love discovering new streets with buildings that contain so much character. This is truly a different type of Asian country – nothing like Thailand or Cambodia and not just because of the temperature. The people are gentle and calm, smiling and genuinely interested in what you have to say and do. They are caring and hospitable, offering us the traditional tea and biscuits when we visit. We have enjoyed serving the people here in Kathmandu thus far…

Our 2 week trek!

So today my team and I head to the mountains. We will trek to remote villages, visit the churches there and join them in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. A Nepali pastor by the name of Bippen and our translator Betu will be our guides. We will be tenting it and eating the food we packed in our packs. I’ll be off of the grid for this time and am SO EXCITED for what God has in store for my team and the people we’ll be meeting.

Please pray

-For open hearts to receive the love of Jesus their savior and friend.

-Pray for clarity and understanding of our message, changed lives spiritually and physically

-For team unity and safety.

Thanks!

My next post won’t be until I return to Kathmandu on the 22nd

For Him!

Lauren
