Hey there! My name is Lauren and I am so glad you’ve stopped by to meet me!
I am 28 years old, living in Charlotte, NC. I attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College (now St. Andrews University) and graduated with a BA in English in 2011. I worked in the broadcast radio industry for the last 6 years, learning marketing and event planning.
“What do you do for fun” you may ask. Honestly, I can’t stand that question. I’ve never been one to have a hobby that I’ve stuck with. I could tell you I love reading, because I do, but that sounds boring right? Or I could say I enjoy working out, but that’s often a chore more than anything. So what I would actually say is that I love trying new things, that’s my hobby. From hiking, to zip lining, indoor climbing to music festivals, I love trying new things, exploring where I live, and meeting new people.
So does it make a little more sense as to why I’m going an 11 month missions trip to 11 different countries? I’d say that it meets all the standards of the “hobbies” that I’ve listed. But with one awesome addition: spreading the gospel!
I grew up in church, I’ve heard about Jesus most of my life, however there’s a difference between hearing about Jesus and knowing Him. I’ve only come to know Jesus for who He really is, what He did for us, in the last year or so, and I continue to learn every day. I’ve watched Him work in my life in ways I never thought possible. So when I heard about the World Race, it was like God was speaking directly to me, showing me that there was something I could be a part of that would combine all my interests and enable me to spread the Word to people who may not know who Jesus is.
I’ve never been outside the country. I’ve never served on a missions trip. I don’t know any languages besides American English (and sporadic words from 3 years of High School Spanish). But I’m leaving in August 2018 on an adventure for God, to God, through God.
Follow me as I navigate the fundraising process, preparations for the race, training camp, and my eventual launch into the biggest journey of my life!
