So my tent came today. REI was out of the tent I wanted, and so they shipped it to me from another store. Thanks Colorado!
So, my mom brings me the tent and what do I immediately do? Start taking everything out of course. This is going to be the best tent ever! I've been accepted to the World Race, so of course I know how to set up a tent!
What a big. fat. lie.
Tent win #1:
Me: OMG! There are stakes with this tent! It must be the wrong one! It was supposed to be free standing! Dang-it! Now I have to return it and get a new one!
[lots exclaimation points because this was an intense moment]
Mom: Lauren, every tent comes with stakes. It's fine.
Tent win #2:
All of the poles have magically put themselves together and I'm trying to figure out how to attach them to the tent. 20 minutes later I realize that I have been trying to set up my rain fly as my tent.
Tent win #3:
There are no instructions. I fight with the tent. It temporarily wins. Start asking mom "do they expect everyone that buys a tent to be a tent expert? How am I supposed to put this thing together? Maybe I should just take it to REI and make them show me how to put it together. They did say they would pack my backpack for me if I brought everything in." Fight some more. Decide to give up for the night. Then immediately find the instructions. Score!
Tent win #4:
Find out that asside from trying to set up my rain fly as my tent, my poles are backwards. Evidently there is a right and a wrong way to set up the tent frame.
Tent win #5:
I try to start attaching my tent to the frame. There is no way this is going to work. There are at least 2 feet between my tent and that pole. Stretch the tent. Stop stretching the tent because I'm pretty sure if I pull anymore it might break or something. Mom comes over and shows me that the poles bend.
Lauren win #1:
I GOT THAT STINKIN' TENT TOGETHER!! And then proceeded to text a million pictures to my dad and sister.
Thanks mom! We conquered the tent!
REI Guy: It should only take you about 20 minutes to set up the first time and about 5 minutes every time after that.
