I’m a Kansas girl, born and raised in Wichita. My mom teaches elementary school (at the school I attended way back when) and my dad is the sound technician and technical director for fine arts at Friends University (where I went to college). He also has a recording studio on campus. I love my family. A lot of people would probably hate to go to school where their parents work, but I loved it. My brother, Ian, just started his senior year at Friends, majoring in business. He doesn’t love school the way I did, but he’s not a quitter, and I’m really proud of him. Our dog, Jingle, is a miniature dachshund. She’s almost 13 and mostly sleeps, but she’s a loyal friend.
I just graduated from Friends University in May with a degree in English (writing emphasis) and two minors in Spanish and Language & Cultural Studies. I was supposed to be a Spanish major, but I couldn’t stand one of my teachers, and at a small school, you can’t just wait a semester and get a new professor. I also took 8 hours of Portuguese my senior year, and I hope to visit my friend Eduardo in Brazil next summer after the Race. I really like languages and words and linguistics and grammar and such.
As far as what I want to do with my life, I’m not sure yet. I know I want to be a wife and a mother someday, and have two dogs–a miniature dachshund and a golden retriever–but that day hasn’t come yet, so I’m waiting patiently and trying not to live like being married is all there is. Singleness is a beautiful thing, and I don’t want to waste it pining over some guy or a different life situation.
I’m an introvert by nature, so I often crave solitude and quiet time, but I also have a heart for people. I love listening to people share their stories and seeing how God is moving in their lives. I hope I never miss an opportunity to encourage someone. At Friends we had an “encouragement box” in the campus ministries lounge, where students could write note cards to lift one another’s spirits, and it was such a delight to find the box overflowing.
Well, thanks for taking the time to read this. If you have any questions or something else you’d like to know about me, you know who to ask! God bless.
