The world we live in is constantly moving. It is always in motion in several different forms, all at once. We rotate on the earth’s axis, while also spinning around the sun in a circular formation. This is not the only thing that is ever-changing in our world, though. Our ideas of what is accepted and considered politically correct change daily, as I think we’ve all been able to see in just the past few months in our society.
Amongst all of these changes, though, there is the One that is unchanging, and His name is Jesus. He is the only thing that has withstood the test of time, not succumbing to the new fads or the popular trends. The same God that was with Moses is with us today, and that’s pretty incredible.
However, with all of the change that happens around us, we also begin to change who Jesus is to us. Please don’t misconstrue this, I’m not saying that Jesus ever changes, but what does change is who we make Him out to be. We decide to pick and choose the attributes of Jesus that we want Him to have. So many times we want Him to only be loving and merciful and gracious, but we must also remember that He is jealous and gets angry and can bring about the worst destruction.
By picking and choosing who we want Him to be, we put Jesus is a bubble that He doesn’t belong in.

Lot. The nephew of Abraham. His story takes place throughout the beginning of Genesis. When given the choice between the land in Canaan or the Jordan Valley, Lot chose the Jordan Valley, and ended up near a town called Sodom… You may have heard of it. The way the Scripture describes this place is that “the people of this area were extremely wicked and constantly sinned against the Lord.”
Yet, Lot stayed until he no longer had a choice. You see, the Lord, in His infinite love and mercy spared Lot and his family from the destruction of the city. Lot was not perfect by any means, and the Lord still made a way for him. Let us not forget though, that the city was still destroyed, and not only that, but when Lot’s wife turned to look back at the city, she was turned into a pillar of salt.
Yes, God is merciful and loving, but He also hates sin, and in this instance, He destroyed and entire town because of it.

We are not disqualified from the wrath of God simply because we do not live in the Old Testament.
God still loves His children, but God still really hates sin. That sin may change, and that sin may not be the same for every person, but that doesn’t take away the fact that ANY sin, no matter how big or small, is against Him. We don’t like to see it that way, though.
We make God out to be the things that He isn’t, excusing the sin that He hates in the meantime.
It’s time we stop putting Jesus in a bubble. It’s time we dive into His Word and find out who He really is and follow that Jesus, not the one we make up in our heads and expect Him to comply with. Jesus isn’t a conveniency, He is a constancy.
We are expected as followers of Christ to share the Gospel. Well, there is only one Gospel, and there is only one Jesus, so when we tell of Him and about Him, let’s, as a body of believers, share the true Him.
