I have a story from Honduras that I never wrote about. As I was looking back at pictures from that day, I had to smile knowing that this story of God’s faithfulness should be shared.

While in Honduras, we would visit a neighborhood called Los Pinos that was known as the most dangerous neighborhood in Honduras. These people were the “untouchables.” The neighborhood was known for drugs, gangs, violence, etc. Not even Hondurans wanted to go in there for fear of danger. The days we went into Los Pinos were some of my favorite days in Honduras with the best memories.

One day, my team decided to do what’s called a treasure hunt, or prophetic prayer. This sounds weird to a lot of people, but has actually been really cool on the Race. The night before we went into Los Pinos, we separately prayed for the Lord to give us a vision or a word to look for the next day. These things would lead us to a person the Lord really wanted to encounter that day. As we came together in the morning, the things we got were: a birdcage, the color red, two of us got vision problems or pain in the eyes, the color yellow, and yellow stuff coming out of the eye, and a Spanish word starting with “re.”

As we walked into Los Pinos, we weren’t sure if this was really going to work, and weren’t fully engaged in looking for our person, but were busy chatting with people as we walked up the street to visit homes. As we walked past a home/tienda, Haley pointed in that direction and told me there was a birdcage. We looked at each other and smiled as we called over some other people from our team and grabbed our friend Gabe to translate. We went up to the door and the first person we saw was an old lady wearing an all red outfit. We asked her name and she said Reyna. (Do you see where this is going?) Then we asked if we could pray for her and asked if there were any things we could specifically pray for. She said that she was having eye problems and that she wakes up everyday with a headache. We asked if anything would come out of her eyes and she said yes. We asked her what color, and she said “amarillo” (yellow). We knew we had our woman, and told her we had a vision of her and that the Lord wanted to heal her. So my whole team plus 2 or 3 other people prayed over her, and when we were done she smiled and said “no hay mas dolor” (there is no more pain). How good of the Lord to send us these visions and to guide our steps to this woman. Our God is faithful.

This is not the only time I have seen the Lord show up in the past 3 months. There have been many opportunities to see people healed, to see them broken from the chains of addiction, to see their sorrow turned to joy, to see their needs met, to see them go from wanting to take their life, to wanting to live a life abundant.

We didn’t need to leave our homes to see these things. We could have done ministry in the cities we live in. The Lord didn’t need us to accomplish these things, He could have used other methods to reach these people. Though the Lord didn’t need us, He knew that these people needed a significant encounter with Him and used us anyways as a means to meet these people in their struggles. He is using a group of North Americans as a means to meet people where they’re at. We are learning more about Him as He leads us to several people who need to know that He is good. We are honored to meet people in their struggles and to bring them the good news that they are not forgotten nor left behind, but that the creator of the world thinks the absolute world of them.
