A few weeks ago I got the idea to interview my squad members as a way to introduce those who are close to me to the people I will be serving with for a year, and I immediately got excited about the idea! So this is the start of a new little blog series where I’ll post about 3 interviews per blog post of each of my squad mates. I’ll also link their blogs so y’all can read more into their hearts. I hope each of you who read these can enjoy getting to know a little bit about the W Squad.

Macky Edwards

1. Where are you from and how old are you?

”I am 23 years old (turn 24 in June) and I am from College Station, Texas.”

2. When did you become a Christian?

”Growing up in a Christian home, I don’t remember a time not knowing who Jesus was, but I was about 11 years old when I understood the gospel more and accepted Jesus into my heart. However, it wasn’t until high school that I fully began to grasp what it means to walk with Jesus and pursue a relationship with Him, and it wasn’t really until my adult life in the past 2 years that I chose to actually walk alongside Jesus. Deciding to follow Jesus has truly been the best adventure of my life!”

3. What is one difficult thing you are proud to have overcome?

”Before deciding to dedicate my life to following Jesus, I struggled with trying to find my worth in other things such as a relationship or work, and I was always left feeling ashamed and guilty when these things didn’t measure up. But now I get to walk freely knowing my value and worth in Jesus. I am made clean, and the feelings of shame and guilt no longer control my life.”

4. Why did you decide to join The World Race?

”I felt in my heart for quite some time that the Lord was calling me to go on a mission trip, but I didn’t know what, where or when. I first heard about The World Race from one of my best friends who did the race in 2017, and starting in the fall of 2018 the race was just on my heart and I knew it was something the Lord was calling me to! I am going on the race to share the best news of the gospel of Jesus and bring my brothers and sisters into the family of God. And I am also going because I know the Lord wants to show me new parts of myself and I am excited to personally grow during this next year.”

5. What are you passionate about?

”I am passionate about people and relationships. I love getting to hear people’s stories! I think our stories are one of the strongest tools we have to bring people to Jesus. People are all so different, but we are also all alike in that we want to feel loved, and I am passionate about helping people feel and know that they are loved.”

6. What is your current life verse?

It’s probably a tie right now between 2 verses!”

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Ephesians 4:1

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

7. What is one thing you want people to know about you?

I love, and I mean LOVE coffee. I love it for the obvious reason of it being delicious….but I also love the culture of coffee. Sitting in a shop talking, around a campfire, early in the morning to start the day, with friends, by yourself…I love all the ways it can bring people together and fill your own personal quiet time. I will be the first in each country to test and find the best coffee! All welcome and wanted to join!”
