Context:

In Malaysia, it is illegal to share the gospel with Muslims.

We lived in a predominately Muslim area.

It was Christmastime.

All month, we were living and working in a home/preschool without Wi-Fi. Every day, at least some of us would walk the mile or two to the local “mall” and avail ourselves of the free Wi-Fi.

Sometimes, for a change of scenery, we would head to a coffee shop called Blackwood and order something small and use their (slightly better) Wi-Fi. As the month progressed, we found ourselves there more and more.

Christmas was a hard time for me. Obviously, a Christmas in a Muslim-dominated Malaysia would be vastly different than a Christmas in America. I was missing family. I was missing my traditions. Lord knows I was missing cold weather!

Christmas day was spent at our host’s home. It was lovely!

That evening, three of us headed to Blackwood to call our families (it was early Christmas morning in their time zones). As we were doing our thing, a Blackwood employee (who didn’t speak much English) came over to our table with this:

We were overjoyed. We knew that they didn’t celebrate Christmas but they still thought of us and blessed us with a delicious shake.

A simple act of love reminded me of how easy it can be to live in harmony.
