Mercy triumphs over judgement…
One word that keeps coming to mind on this journey is “mercy”. I believe God has given me a gift of mercy and a desire to see people know their true potential.
From my observations of the human race, it seems to me very apparent that we all spend a lot of time worrying about what we think of each other. I know I am guilty of it, fearing judgement for certain choices I may or may not make. I believe there are many non believers out there who assume that Christians must be judging their lifestyle choices. Sadly that can be the case sometimes. However, I do not believe it is our place to do so. Whilst there are certainly actions I do not condone, and I am ready to say so, I believe it is the place of the Holy Spirit to convict people of their actions. My job is to lead people to the Lord and then let Him do His work. Judging others suggest I am somehow higher or better than them, when in reality I fall short every day and am only made right by Gods constant mercy and grace.
What I really want to convey here is that coming to faith is not coming to a place of judgement. Before I was a Christian I remember sitting in church feeling like I didn’t belong. I was too far gone, too bad and I would be judged for what I had done. Well let me tell you what God has to say about that. In James 2:13 it says,
“…mercy triumphs over judgment.”
If you come to God, you’re not coming to be judged and condemned. Yes, wrong actions merit judgement and punishment, but when Jesus died on the cross he wiped the slate clean. He took the blame and judgement for every single wrong thing we have done or will do wrong. So instead of being judged for messing up, God can show mercy because Jesus carried our sin and shame for us.
“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2
Imagine if you knew someone who never condemned you, but instead always forgave you and then set their heart on transforming you into the best and truest version of yourself. Who you were really made to be. Someone who would love you no matter what. I know that person and so could you.
It does not matter what you have or have not done. How far gone you think you are. How great you think your sin is. There is always mercy. There is always the opportunity to start over. God completely turned my life around and I’ve never looked back. Because of Gods mercy I am where I am, on the World Race living out my dream to see the world and serve the Lord.
Please don’t turn your back on the cross and what Jesus did there because you fear judgement. Wouldn’t you rather see what could happen if you started living in mercy and grace? Are you hungry to realise your true potential? If so I’d encourage you to go to church, talk with a Christian, or get in touch, because God is waiting to take you on an amazing journey too.
