“It’s an honor to be a light in the midst of their darkness.â€  Haiti 2010

There’s only one week left in Haiti and as I begin to look back on the time we’ve spend here I get a huge grin. When we got here I figured we’d be given a project to do by the pastor, do it and move on. I was wrong, we are the first World Race team to stay at this location and the pastor gave us full freedom to pick a ministry, pick a project and do it. It reminded me of my pastor back home, he always says If God called you to do it, then do it. There is so much to be done here that if you aren’t careful, you could easily get overwhelmed. The destruction is horrible, the supplies are limited and expensive, and so many people lost everything they had. How do we make even a dent in this area of poverty and pain?

It’s what we asked God to reveal to us and he did. When we got here a wonderful missionary was already here, Miss Rebecca Haney. An amazing woman of God who blessed us daily with prayer and encouragement. She has known Pastor Jean Claude for years and had quite a few stories to tell. I am so blessed I got to know her. When she left 3 more missionaries came, Pastor James Walker, Sister Ruth and Nurse Sarah. They led Kendra, Leah and I into one of my dream ministries, medical missions. We set up 3 clinics and saw over 100 patients in 3 days! God is a God of healing and joy and it was exciting to pray over people, and get their blood pressure and temperature, before they saw the doctor and Sarah.

The rest of my team had been working at the school, and when the clinics days were over we jumped right into ministry there. The school is set up right in the middle of a tent city and is run by dedicated volunteers. At the school we teach English, hold dance parties and play with the kids.

We like to go over to the tent cities, playground and soccer field and spread God’s love and joy on whoever we can talk to. God’s been doing amazing things in my heart, I’m so blessed to be here.

Prayer walks are a critical part of ministry here. The truth is that we can’t make everyone’s problems go away or feed everyone or build each person a new home. The problems are way to large for one group to fix, but God is a God of miracles and we love to pray that revival will come and his glory will be revealed to everyone.  I love to lift up this country in prayer and intercede for those around me.

One prayer walk led us down to a different tent city . We spent the day listening to people’s stories, doing girl’s nails, playing games with the children and speaking life into each person.  It was one of my favorite days here and I can’t wait to go back there this week!!

We will be continuing these ministries this week and on Saturday we pack up and head to the Dominican Republic.

If you feel called to help Haiti in a deeper way I will be writing a blog about practical ways to do that. Please keep updated!  I’m not sure when we will have the internet again so please keep checking the blog for updates or subscribe to my blog by clicking on blog alerts, on the left side column.  It will send you an email every time I post something new.

Thank you again for your generosity, prayer and love.
Xoxo, Laura
