China 3.21.11 A Day In The Life

I’m sitting on the couch in our north west city in China. I love it here and they may have to pull me out of here kicking! I know, only a few days left.
As I look out the window here in the nice warm, living room  of our 11th floor apartment. I see a mountain in the near distance covered with snow! Yes, yesterday we got 2 inches and today another 4! It packed down so it looks like 4 in all and it’s slushy, cold and wet! Aubrie, Shawndell and I left at 8:30am and walked a mile to the coffee shop and Lee met us there by bike. And we spent another morning cleaning. Last time I tackled the squatty potty bathroom which was covered in grim and pee all over the tile walls. Today I tackled the fan, and floor and washed some of the walls which were covered in smoke. 6 buckets of black water later we all headed out to eat. I filled my stomach on amazing egg fried rice. After running into the store and bakery we headed back to the coffee shop to celebrate the workers one year anniversary with the shop. (I’m not a fan of cake with fruit in it, or any other kind of filling for that matter. 9 more weeks and I can bake in my own kitchen for as long as I want!!! Oh, chocolate chip muffins…)

We took a taxi back and with fingers frozen we entered our busy home at 2:30pm. The kids, ages 5, 4 and 2, are running around talking and talking. They are beautiful, sweet kids who always make me smile. We “play and play all day.
Yesterday we took them outside to play in the snow. We do gymnastics, home school them, make lots of crafts, watch movies and more. They keep us busy and entertained.

It’s been a blessing this month to have a real home. It’s a 4 bedroom, 1 ½ bath apartment that currently has 13 people here. Hot showers, a kitchen to cook in, TV, and a ton of great movies (which after a busy day you need!) and they have Monk! (Which is my 2nd favorite show of all time) It’s beautifully decorated with authentic antique furniture from a market here. I could totally see myself living here- it’s giving me ideas for future decorating.

The helper here made us a great dinner of tacos, and now we are settling in for a warm night. Maybe a movie, maybe just bed, either sounds amazing…
