Whatever happened to those winnings??
Well, I'm glad you asked!
After much debating and thinking things through [ok, so maybe we aren't really the debating type…], we decided to use our winnings to take a day off and head to Granada a day early to relax at a nice hostel on Lago de Apoyo, right outside of Granada. Ed had found The Monkey Hut on his last adventure in Granada during retreat. It is situated right on Lago de Apoyo and is named after the howler monkeys that live nearby.
Lago de Apoyo is a lake that is in the crater of a now-dormant volcano. It is about 90m deep in the center. It was such a beautiful place! They had free kayaks and inner tubes as well as two floating docks right in the lake. We went kayaking, we swam, jumped off the docks, pushed each other off the docks, and just fooled around having a joyous time! I tried to kayak all the way across the lake, but Christopher turned back on me, so I decided I shouldn’t go by myself. I made it about 2/3 of the way, though…
We enjoyed fresh home-made pizza for lunch and I got fried fish for dinner. The food was amazing! The view was even more spectacular! We woke up to watch the sunrise over the lake, but it was too cloudy to see anything to spectacular. Bummer… I still enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks lakeside, just reading and spending time with the Lord. It was a much needed rest and much needed team time after a rough month of learning how to live with another team.
