So other than teaching English this month, we had the opportunity to clean out an outdoor baptismal at the church we are working with. The thing is, the “pool” was SICK. If you got into it, you would be mid-calf deep in sewage. I was excited to get my hands dirty though, no pun intended. It wasn’t glamorous by any means, but we decided to have a good attitude and went to work singing Christmas carols the whole time. Because there were six of us, we finished the job in a little over an hour. The pastor was really excited, and we were so glad to bless him with finishing a task that seemed pretty difficult and well… gross.

   It has been really cool to see different people actually realize the difference even though it is kind of in the corner and no one has announced that there is any change. I was on the church balcony today waiting for class and a few students walked into the yard. They walked over to the spotless baptismal and smiled. They noticed me and waved and said that it looked so cool. Things like this make even shoveling the sludge worth it…
