So a big question I get a lot while on the Race is “What are you eating during your shenanigans??” Here is a brief intro into the food of Guatemala!

This was the first all squad meal we had in Guatemala. It was a steriotypical latin concoction of rice and beans with an avacado and cucumber salad.

Another Constant companion in Guatemala was Coffee! This was a vanilla late that I got at a cute little cafe called “Regi’s”

This was one of the best meals this month! It was a chicken Tomali with a salad, roll, tostado and beans and a carmelized Plantain.

This was the sketchiest meal I had all month…. It consisted of roast beef, potatoes, corn and some sort of green vegetable that is best described as a corn and celery flavored potato. It was made by the cook at the school I worked at, but the meat came from the market, which means that it was hanging on a pole for who knows how many hours before it was purchased and cooked…. I ate it all, and it tasted great and I didn’t get sick from it =)

This is the fancies meal I had all month. It was a whole fish grilled with garlic and herbs, steemed broccoli, cauliflower and zuccini, cheesy rice and guac. I got this lovely yumminess at a bistro at Lake Atitlan!

Overall, my favorites of Guatemala are:

  1. The Best munchies in Guatemala- Fuego Takis: These little guys are similar to hot cheetos. Instead of being puffed up corn though, they have the texture of doritos that are rolled into conoli shapes…
  2. The Best Candy- sour gummi snakes. These are similar to those trolli sour gummy worms, but so much better! When they get hot in the sun, they have the texture of marshmellows and they are more sour!
  3. The best snack: Pan Ioti (No idea if I spelled that one right…) THis was a sweet bread that a local bakery sold… It was like corn bread had a baby with pumpkin bread and then they added crack…. seriously so so gooooood!!
