Things I will Miss:

  1. Lake Atitlan. Seriously the most beautigul place I have ever been!
  2. Wilfredo, Christina and Fernando. These kids made my day so much better than it should have been! Even though I couldn’t speak to them, they loved me tons!
  3. Tuk Tuk rides. Tuk Tuks are pretty much modified go carts. Imagine flying through a city of cobblestone streets in one of these! It was so much fun!
  4. Chicken Buses. These kinda get a bad rep for most Americans. They are literally US school buses that have been modified to brave the Guatemalan mountain roads. It was like a roller coaster and I am one of those crazies that thoguht they were fun!
  5. ALL THE PASTRIES! Guatemala is surprisingly full of cafes/ bakeries that have fantastic donuts and crosants! It took a week for my team to realize that we had to stop getting them for breakfast every morning!
  6. The market. It can be kinda crazy at times, but you can get  so much fresh fruits and vege for super cheap! It was great!

Things I won’t miss

  1. The smell of the market. Imagine day old meat hanging on poles in the heat of Guatemala. It definitely wasn’t pleasant.
  2. Having to bleach all of our produce. Apparently there are some funky pathogens here in LAtin America, so we had to bleach all of our fruits and veges, which sometimes left them tasting funky….
  3. All the rain. It rained like clockwork here. Every single night. I’m tired of sleeping in a wet tent all night.
  4. The cold. Even though, we are close to the ecuator, it gets pretty dang cold here at night. I’m not one to get cold very easily, but some nights I was trying to sleep while shivering cause it was so cold.

Places where God Showed up:

  1. Helping me know what to do in my class everyday. I seriously don’t know how I managed to entertain these kdis for so long. It was definitely divine inspiration!
  2. Not having alone time. because it’s all squad month, there were 55 of us living in a small area. Not gonna lie, I get annoyed fairly easily when I don’t get my alone time. God forced me to have great patience and to start to think about viewing others how God views them when I don’t want to show them grace!
  3. I am special. One thing I have always struggled with is not feeling that I have a lot to give in ministry. My teaam has constantly told me otherwise this month. Their main constructive feedback was for me to share my knowledge more readily. Not gonna lie, I’m always afraid that I’ll seem like a know it all or that people will get annoyed with me for correcting them all the time. It’s great to know that God has created me with the eagerness to learn and impart knowledge (BIblical and otherwise) on people!
