Going into Thailand I knew I would see men, women and children being sold for sex. The assumption I had going into this was that these women would not like their job and that the whole scene would be much more aggressive. However walking down the bar street was  much different than I could have ever imagined.

In the first few days of ministry we watched Nefarious, a movie about the sex industry, and my assumptions were completely blown out the door. There are so many different situations that can cause a women to get into the sex, many shades. Different reasons or explanations as to why a women ends up in this vulnerable state; parents selling them, being taken, being told they would have a good job in the city and believe it or not some even choose to go, it is culturally normal.

I met all kinds of people who were being sold and it was hard. It is not easy seeing people being exploited because someone else has a desire to fill. I met women who clearly were not happy about their job and I met others who seemed completely satisfied. It was amazing the caliber at which the operation moved and the ability to do a job well.

Linda was one of those ladies who does her job very well. Linda is the life of the party and was proud to explain in great detail about her life, job, boyfriend and free time. Linda, like everyone else, has potential to change her culture, define her life and be a person of purpose. However can that happen without knowing your worth as more than just an object?

Prostitution can be defined as the unworthy or corrupt use of one’s talents for the sake of others. Prostitution looks completely different depending where you are and the cause and effect that put them in that position. In my opinion it’s sickening. Something that was created to bring life, love and unity has been twisted into something that means no more than a few dollars.

If we as a society continue to corrupt innocence and allow everything to be permissible what have we become? I am completely pro that what you do on your own time is your business but if we, as a whole, cause havoc to others where is our morality?
