Everything about bungee jumping is unnatural. Your feet are strapped together. You are told to jump off a 500 meter high bridge with a raging river below. You're instructed to jump head first, with no hesitation. All of this goes against your natural instincts. You were created to survive! And so your mind fights against things that might kill you. We are also very independent people who prefer to be in control. So, sacrificing that control and submitting to someone else is terrifying!
Following God is equally as unnatural. We are asked to jump off spiritual bridges. To tithe when there isn't enough money in the account to pay rent. To love people who use and abuse us. To submit the care of your life, your future and all your hopes and dreams to an unseen God. Everything within us screams "NO!", but the few who are brave enough (some say stupid enough) leap anyway! Why? Because we TRUST. We TRUST that the gear will hold us. We TRUST that the One in charge is well trained and knows what He is doing. And in the end we have an amazing thrill! Nothing will take away the stomach drop in the free-fall, but we can ELIMINATE the FEAR by willingly giving up the facade of CONTROL and fully trusting.
CONFIDENCE is key. TRUST in the ONE who created you. Who knows everything about you. Who is never thrown off guard or taken by surprise. Who isn't scared what the future holds because He already knows.
So when they say "One, two, three, JUMP!" you just gotta jump!
No HESITATION. No Backing Out.
Just TRUST and JUMP.
It is that exact moment when you are at the end of yourself, the end of your rope when God can snap you back. Because it's never been you holding yourself up or holding yourself together in the first place. It's been Him all along, even if you've never even acknowledged Him. He gives you each new day, new breath, every joy. He gave you life, and He is sustaining your life! How great are His mercies, even if you don't even believe He exists. He believes in You. He created YOU for His purpose! He still loves you, died for you and lives to see you live for HIM. So, won't you join in the few? Won't you be couragous and jump? I promise nothing is scarier, but nothing eles will make you so ALIVE.
This bungee jump in Nepal at the Last Resort is the 2nd Highest in the WORLD and it's the highest swing in the WORLD. This was my first ever experience doing either. I lost my shoe in the process, and you might too, but it will still be worth it!
After bungee jumping we then proceeded to pay a man to drive us to the Tibet border and crossed over illegally into China. Walking across with just one shoe on, I felt like a true refugee! God is the most amazing friend, master and lover, and I am forever blessed to be HIS.
