Dear Future Self,
Appreciate this moment, stop and look around you, be thankful for all you have and where you are because this time next year, nothing will be SAME.
As I prepare for this journey for the next year. I will constantly learn who I am, not the person I have learned to become being shaped by the American culture, family, and friends, but who I truly am. This is scary. I like this comfortable, easy, non-confronting life. This is the life that I use to dream about as a kid. Grow-up, work as a 1st-grade teacher, go to college receive a master’s degree, have amazing friendships, sip americanos and live the American dream.
As I sit here and dream about what this next year will hold for me and my squad, it excites me but also terrifies me. I will be leaving the comfortable American lifestyle for 11 months– 335 days– 8,030 hours– 481,800 minutes. I know on this journey I will be forever changed.
The way I view the world, people, myself and God will be forever transformed. As I come back to American soil in June 2019 please remember to continue to have the outlook on life that you learned over the past year. Be the person you were made to be. Don’t let the busyness of life undo all the unraveling.
Don’t be afraid to share what happened overseas to others you come in contact with when you’re back or to your family and friends. The past 11 months is a huge part of your story!
Enjoy where you are in life and be present for you will never have the same day or moments twice in life.
Love,
Laney
