With my trip on the World Race Gap Year being less than 6 months away, I am getting so excited! We will be arriving in America in less than 4 months and I am really looking forward to hanging out with friends, spending time with family, and eating some good American food. It is hard to believe that we have been living in Swaziland for nearly 4 years now! I will also be finishing up high school in less than 2 months, which is crazy, and I can’t believe I’m almost done. However, with all of these exciting new things coming up, I feel like God is wanting me to do something. FOCUS.

FOCUS on the present and LIVE in the moment. FOCUS on how I can still make an impact here in Swaziland and help bring people to Christ where I am. I know that God will do great things through me on the race, but He has still called me to reach out to the people around me now.

I am one of the people over the kids department at our church, Liberty Church Manzini, and it has been so rewarding to see the kids having fun and learning about Christ. Some of them have even invited their parents who don’t go to church, so they are getting to hear the Gospel possibly for the very first time. As I get ready to leave, it makes me sad to think about all of the things and people I will be leaving behind: from the beautiful mountains, breathtaking sunsets, and clear night sky to being emerged into the culture at the Manzini market and doing outreaches in the blazing heat with our Liberty Church family to help reach the lost people of Manzini. However, I know that as I go into this new season of life, I will make new, lifelong friends on the World Race and have even more amazing experiences.

“Life is a journey, not a destination.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

In order to live life to the fullest, we must live life in the moment. God calls each one of us to make a difference wherever we are. I often find myself focusing on my new adventure in the upcoming year, that I forget I am on a great adventure right now. So don’t focus so much on the future or the past that you miss the present. FOCUS on the moment and make an impact where you are right now.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” Matthew 6:24 MSG

Another thing that God has been laying on my heart is the parable of the lost sheep in Luke chapter 15. It has been coming up in lots of places in my life recently and I believe that it is very important. Jesus leaves the 99 to find the 1 who is lost. I believe that this is what we, as Christians, are called to do. To go out and find that lost person that does not know Jesus and help bring them to Christ. The term “missionary” is often just used for people that move or go to a foreign country to do mission work, but as followers of Christ, we are all missionaries. FOCUS on that one person who you can make a difference in their life.

Don’t get so focused on the destination that you forget to stop and enjoy the scenery.
