I've been writing this blog…my first blog as a World Racer…for nearly a month. In my head, anyway. Heck, I've probably mentally written it 23 times. But sitting down and typing words that form sentences that form paragraphs that form something that actually makes sense? Well, that never happened. I can tell you what did happen…
I've explored categories on Pinterest that I never knew existed.
I've stalked more people via Facebook than I care to admit.
I've checked my email a ridiculous amount of times.
I've actually read most of my emails. (I usually immedietly delete 90% of them because, let's be honest, it's not really Old Navy's biggest sale ever. There will always be another one.)
I've purchased tickets to see INGRID MICHAELSON! (A positive result of thoroughly reading my emails — thank you, Chameleon Club.)
I've learned enough about sleeping bags, headlamps, tents, backpacks, hammocks, and compressible pillows to be a respectable REI employee.
I've compiled a list of 116 names suitable for cows, because you never know when you'll have the opportunity to name a newborn calf.
I've watched more episodes of Kitchen Nightmares than I ever thought I would.
I've perused Craigslist, discovering jobs I'll never apply for in towns I'll never live in.
I've gone to Crocs.com. Enough said.
I think you get the idea.
Why did all of this happen in lieu of writing a simple post on my blog? I'll tell you why. Because mindlessly scrolling through page after page of sleeping bags is easier. It's easier than trying to explain what the World Race is, and why I'm crazy enough to go on it. It's easier than asking you for money. It's easier than admitting that I'm slightly terrified.
So I procrastinate. I buy a tent. I buy a compressible pillow. I buy a backpack. And I secretly hope that that is enough to prepare me for the trip.
But, let's face it…it's not.
So let me tell you what's up:
I'm going on The World Race!
I, along with a squad of awesome people, will be going to 13 countries in 11 months.
I leave in September.
It's through an organization called Adventures In Missions.
I will be living out of a backpack.
I need to raise a lot of money, and I need your help 🙂
I'm excited.
I'm nervous.
This is our route:
Zimbabwe/Botswana
South Africa
Swaziland
India
Philippines
China
Ukraine
Moldova
Honduras
Nicaragua
Costa Rica/Panama
So there it is. My first post as an official World Racer. There is definitely plenty more to be said, but it's a start. Hopefully from now on, my attempts to blog will not turn into internet scavenger hunts.
