Random fact about me – having snow on Christmas day is something I care a lot about. Maybe too much if I’m honest. But it’s a thing that is such a simple delight for me. I don’t even care if it actively snows that day or not… just as long as there is some snow on the ground on Christmas day. Something about that just makes the holidays complete to me.

Here in Spokane Washington, all our snow melted last week and new snow wasn’t forecasted until December 26th. I was bummed, but it wasn’t the end of the world. During the drive to pick up my great aunt (who is in her 90s) for Christmas dinner this afternoon, I kept thinking the following things:

“I hope it starts to snow early.”

“God, it would be so cool if it started snowing this evening.”

“Mannnn, I would love if I had to drive my aunt home in the snow tonight after dinner.”

No part of me expected or anticipated that it would actually begin to snow ahead of the forecast. I would be thrilled if it did and I hoped it would, but I didn’t think that would happen. Ha. Silly me.

Partway through our second round of Pinochle, my family realized that not only had it started snowing early, but there was already a solid blanket covering the ground.

My heart leapt at the fresh understanding that the God I serve and love so cares for the little things. He knows how much I love having snow on Christmas, and he was delighted in my delight. How sweet a reminder to not always be caught up in the big things of life; good or bad. Our father is in the details.

Merry Christmas!

Much love,

Laina

Colossians 1:15-17 TPT

He is the divine portrait, the true likeness of the invisible God, and the first-born heir of all creation. For through the Son everything was created, both in the heavenly realm and on the earth, all that is seen and all that is unseen. Every seat of power, realm of government, principality, and authority—it was all created through him and for his purpose! He existed before anything was made, and now everything finds completion in him.
