Golden mountains as far as the eye can see.. As our bus climbed to an attitude of 14000 feet the only wild life I seen was the occasional sparrow and one small hawk.. The Tibetan Shepard¡¯s with their sheep and yak herds looked like black ants against the rolling hills at the bases of the towering mountains¡ With the sun reflecting off the decaying grasses it truly gave the illusion of golden dust sprinkled over everything.. This visual masterpiece we drove through is known as the Tibetan Plateau..
The Tibetan monks build these colorful flag shrines on the tops of the hills and at entry points, I was told they are all prayers written on these flags. Oh how I wish I could pray their prayers for them to my God to truly answers all our prayers..
As dusk splashed pink over the once golden hills and the already cold weather plummeted below freezing our once foggy windows became sheets of ice¡ And many of our passengers became very ill.. The dark bumpy bus ride mixed with the high altitude didn¡¯t make for the funniest night in Tibetan history..
But God had a treat in store for us, as we stopped road side for a pottie break I was not prepared for what I saw¡ I glanced up because I seen the black sky glowing.. The glow was the stars! So many stars they made a glowing blanket that stretched from one edge of the pitch black earth to the other.. 360 degrees of stars, in all my camping and traveling experience I have never seen so many stars like this.. If ice wasn¡¯t forming on my toes and nose I would have stayed out there all night just to stand in awe of Gods heavens¡
We finally arrived in out mountain top Tibetan village at 7am the next day. Our 20 hour bus ride was finally complete. The Tibetan people are sweet and beautiful. Their long robes lined with sheep fur and the long braids tied at the ends with beautiful adorments make them as fun to look at as they are to talk too.. They look more like native Indians than Chinese and with their wavy black hair and high cheek bones the young men are the most attractive men I have ever seen in my life.. But they have their pick of tons of beautiful young girls that are equally as perfect..
The coolest part is that some of the men walk around with swords hanging from their multicolored belts!!!! I love it here! I know without a doubt I will be back, although I might opt for the summer months next time.. hehe
My words can not describe my drive up here and the way my heart felt as I breathed in the cold Tibetan air but I can say Thank you to my God for answering my life long prayer of wanting to see His world and the beauty he created.. Every second i stare out the windows of the bus or train or plane we take to these detinations i cant believe this is truly happening.. My childhood dream is being fullfilled and my only wish is that my Dad could see all this with me..
