Pink is my favorite color, so you can imagine my joy when we arrived in Cambodia and had the use of pink toilet paper. I love it! Actually I love toilet paper in general now. I have a new found appreciation for TP, it’s basically a delicacy. Rarely do any businesses, houses, or restaurants have any. So I now carry some with me everywhere I go….welcome to the life of a World Racer.
I never thought I would say this but, toilet paper is glorious.Thank you Jesus for pink toilet paper. The Cambodians here just get along with out it…but I prefer not to.
I can hardly believe how fast my month in the Philippines flew by. My team United was located at a YWAM (youth with a mission) base in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It's fascinating switching from one culture to the next. Our first day in Cambodia we had orientation where we learned what was appropriate t and what wasn’t. Many things we take from western culture as a norm is not so normal here.
A few things we learned are …the head is holy here, you don’t touch kids heads. You don’t step over people its disrespectful. Guys and girls don’t touch at all, its considered scandalous. And you don’t point.
After we saw some of the Cambodian history which is very raw, and still recent we dove into ministry. All of October we worked alongside Jeff and his Cambodian wife Chenny fixing up their church and cleaning during the mornings. When we weren’t doing that, we learned a Kumai dance which we preformed the Sunday before we left. Then during the afternoons we prepared our lessons and taught English from 4:30 until 7:30. I loved our students. They were all so eager to learn and came to class after regular school. On Sundays a team member would usually preach and one would share a testimony . On the weekend we taught music lessons and had youth group where we planed fun games and music.
I actually shared a short testimony on stage one Sunday, which if you know me is huge! I do not do stages, and I do not do microphones. But God helped me through it! =) We also led cell groups where we went out on a lake to houses on stilts and had church. Jesus is everywhere here in Cambodia.
I truely loved our english students and the time spent in Cambodia! Sohka one student that sticks out to me had our portraits painted and invited us to her house for curry dinner before we left, it was so sweet. The month was wonderful and flew by! But now its time to bring on Malaysia!
