Hello Everyone!
Our internet access has been very limited here so thats why there has been a delay in keeping you posted but I've finally got my blog working again…so….
It’s official. We’re off! Over three weeks ago around 80 of us crammed into a house in Manila to train one more time before being sent out. We spent some awesome time together as a squad, and getting to know the people in the city.
The Philippines are wonderful!!! It’s a broken but beautiful country. The people are so friendly. Everyone says hello and kids are even more friendly. When we flew here I was exhausted…and it took several days for my body to adjust from the time changes and numerous flights.
I am currently located in Malaybalay on the island of Mindanao . It is absolutely beautiful here. God is such a talented artist, the view and the mountains surrounding us are spectacular. While we were living in Manila it was unbelievably hot so the breeze here is much appreciated.
This month my team, United, and 3 other teams have been working for Kids International Ministry at their orphange located here in Malaybalay. We have be spending all day with the kids… helping with homework, feeding, caring for babies and just loving on the children. When we are not in the orphanage we are clearing a field of rocks and old grass, then laying down sod that we went and cut up to create a soccer field. It doesn’t sound too tiring but surprisingly it is….. We also have the opportunity to help out with Awana on saturdays where hundreds of kids show up, and on sundays we visit the jail up the street to minister to the prisoners. Theres also church to help with on Sundays and bible studies to help lead.
As you can see we have been kept very, very busy. Some days start at 5 am and end at 9 or 10pm with team time and feedback. It's been tiring but wonderful so far. God is already at work molding my heart to become more like him, to live like him, love endlessly like him and to live closely in community with my team. I love it here and am going to have a hard time leaving, but next month we are serving in a dump in Cambodia. I'm not sure what it entails but I am ready to jump in.
A few on our squad have also been not been feeling so dandy so continue to pray for health throughout this year. Thanks again for reading and praying!
