A typical day this week in the life of Lacey…welcome to my world:

DECEMBER 1st-2010
7:33 a.m.-Turning over I decide to get up, I’ve slept in. Judging by the light coming in the window its getting late. I’ve done my morning prayer comfortably in bed so I get up to look at the clock… 7:33? Perfect timing for not having a watch or alarm.
7:45am- I wrap a borrowed towel around me as I get out of the shower( Mine blew off our balcony last month and disappeared) and realize once again I didn’t shave my legs because I don’t have time.
7:47am– I don’t spend a lot of time deciding what to wear. I put on my jeans because we must wear pants to ministry and put on a black T-shirt that I’ve already worn a few times but consider clean.
7:50am– I waste a few minutes looking for my glasses because I want to wear them and my eyes hurt, but I can’t find them amongst my mess so in go my contacts.
7:55am– I forgot Jeannie put a piece of toast in the toaster for me so I walk the two steps from my room to the kitchen and eat my breakfast of toast and boiled egg standing up.
8:03am-Its already past 8. We’re supposed to be leaving at 8 but Bethany shouts down the hall that we can leave at 8:15 today because we were early last time.
8:08 a.m-I do my hair. Brush my teeth. Pack my purse.
8:21am– We stand outside our door at the bus stop. We missed the 8:15 bus. But at least we don’t miss it twice…that happened the other day.
8:35am- I’m sitting in the back row of the crowded but air-conditioned bus people watching. The bus lurches to numerous stops. We almost hit two ladies running across the street but it would have been their fault, the driver was only semi crazy on the road.
8:50am- We’re early again as we pull up to the Adventist Hospital where we’re ministering this month. I put on my super awesome blossom teal volunteer vest (yes vest, be jealous) in one of their offices and my nametag. Volunteer: Lacey Malcomson.
9:30am- We sit in a room with blue chairs and wait to be told where to go for the day. We’ve been sitting here for 40 minutes. Somewhere a lady is trying to organize what we’re helping with today. Sometimes on The World Race we wait around because people are not prepared, ontime, organized etc. We’re getting used to it.
9:45am-Once again we’re helping the hospital raise money for children who need heart surgery. We are selling small red heart coin boxes that come with a lock and key for 10 ringet( about $3 us). We fill bags up with the boxes and sling them over our shoulder.
10:00am-Holding hands we pray for the day, our attitudes, and the people we will talk to.
10:15am-“Hello, we’re with the save a heart campaign and we’re raising money to give children who can’t afford it heart surgery. Over 50 kids last year were provided with surgeries and there are over 3000 on the waiting list this year.” Over and over we ask people in the waiting rooms to help the cause and people are surprisingly generous.
10:30am- Leyna has sold her entire bag. She’s really convincing about helping such a good cause. We head back to the office for a refill.
11:30am– My smile is starting to hurt
11:55am-We dump out our donations before heading to eat and we’ve already raised 800 ringgits before lunchtime.
12:10pm- We wait in line at the cafeteria for our free lunch of rice(surprise) and veggies. I get eggs, cauliflower, and vegetarian chicken. It’s not chicken if it’s vegetarian. But that could just be my opinion. It should be called chewy, not- even- close- to –chicken, imitation. I also eat a slice of papya. It tastes normal.
12: 30pm-Jasmine helps eat some of my leftover food. Usually I stuff my face but I’ve been eater smaller portions since getting sick with a 102 degree fever a few days ago.
12:40pm-Back in the room with the blue chairs we all lay on the floor with little borrowed stuffed animals as pillows. Half under the chairs and table we fall sleep. It’s a wonderful 20 minutes until we have to be back on this planet
.
1:05pm- Yawning, we get up to head back to ministry.
2:45pm-We sell more boxes. Actually 1,100 ringgets worth. We head back to the offices to drop off our supplies.
3:00pm-The girls and I cross the insanely busy street and stop at the gas station to get change for the bus. I buy oreos and mountain dew. Both which I have not eaten in ages and taste almost like home.
3:07pm-We run the rest of the way to the bus station sweating in the humidity as the 101 bus pulls in to take us home. The bus has standing room only. Oh well…more chance to people watch. Up close and personal.
3:57pm– My team has finally have arrived home! I climb the 64 steps to our floor thinking about how much I want ice cream.
4:15pm-I try to take a short nap. For some reason I can’t sleep. Maybe it’s the mountain dew I just drank.
4:28pm-Instead I decide to watch a movie since my room is quiet and I have a little free time. I watch post grad and decide I want to cut my hair like Alexis Bledels. Then I remember I’m in Asia…and I can’t just go get a haircut.
5:30pm-I’m called to dinner. Our team is actually doing dinner on the roof. Its beautiful and cool since the sun is behind the clouds. I look out over Malaysia, the ocean, and the foggy mountains in the distance and eat my naan bread, noodles, and spicey samosas things.
6:05pm-I help wash the greasy dishes but I enjoy it. For some reason I truly enjoy doing dishes these past few months (don’t get too excited mom)
6:30pm– I grab my bible and head back up to the roof where dusk is settling and us girls are having i-pod worship. Someones i-pod is already plugged into the speakers and singing loudly. I step over the girls sitting and laying around me to find my own spot.
6:36pm-I hang out with Jesus. We talk. Sometimes I talk and he listens. Sometimes he talks and I listen. I praise his holy name.
7:37 pm– Its time to head to Kawan where we do a weekly prayer/evangelism night. Kawan is a center that provides meals for the homeless of Malaysia.
8:15pm– Its time to pray for the night so we divide into small groups and pray for the people we will be coming in contact with, the people coming to the night church at Kawan, etc. There are two DTS YWAM schools joining us tonight so the room is full of people speaking different languages.
8:21pm-With a bit of confusion and loud hustle and bustle we make it into groups for the night and head out. I’m with Ashley, CK is our leader, and two other Korean women.
8:30pm– My team and I walk the streets looking for divine appointments and opportunities to pray.We pray over a temple and a school.
9:00pm-CK stops us to pray for an old woman sitting on the sidewalk with a white bag and cats encircling her legs. She’s the cat lady. I laugh because we have cat ladies back home. And apparently Malaysia has them too. She fell down mopping so we lay hands and pray.
9:10pm- I have noticed since we left that CK our leader is limping…but I don’t say anything.
9:40pm– Walking slowly we arrive back at Kawan located on Love street. One of the more dangerous streets in Penang. Even locals are surprised to hear we roam the area talking to people.
9:45pm– It hurts so bad CK says. Ashley and I both turn and look at the foot he’s been limping on. Can we pray for it? He says yea. Can we lay hands and pray? (guys and girls are not very touchy over in Asia) he says Yup. Ash and I sit down on the dirty floor and grab his foot. I pray that it be a testimony, that God would heal his servant.
9:50pm-He gets up and can put all of his weight on his foot now. He has injured it 3 times and walking makes it sore. He actually jumps up and down. Ashley and I smile at each other. PTL he’s been healed! Thank God!
10:10pm- Not everyone is back yet but we share what we have experienced during our night. Some people stayed back to intercede and pray for us while we were on the streets. They share visions they saw and shared what they felt God was saying.
10:30pm-We say our goodbyes and head out the door making CK jump up and down again, and smile at his healed foot.
10:45pm-I hang out in the living room with a few girls laughing and smile at just being together. Then I decide I need to sleep.
11:25pm– I brush my teeth. I wash my face. I take out my contacts. I thank God for everything I can think of, realize how soon tomorrow is coming, curl up in bed, and doze off.
Ministry changes from day to day so we never really know what we might be doing. I just wanted you to catch a glimpse of my random but wonderful life! Jesus is present in every small thing that happens throughout my day…=)
