So people have been asking…

Why are you going on the World Race?

Why are you going to do a mission trip in another country? We need help right here in America…

What’s in it for you?

And at first, to be honest, those question struck me pretty hard, and honestly made me a bit upset. I felt misunderstood.

But ya know who’s job it is to understand me? Whose job it is to lead me? Who I have to listen to? Who I need to follow?

God!

So then… I got to thinking. If one of my friends, future children or family members told me that they were going to go to 11 countries, some of which are “third world countries” or are…well, kind of scary in terms of what we hear in the news… I’d probably ask questions too!

So, what I’m trying to say is… I get it. I understand why these questions have to be asked. Heck, I’d ask ’em too! I’m hoping that through this blog post, I can at least give you some comfort by trying to answer some of your questions. And whatever comfort I cannot give to you…

God can, and he will. 🙂

Question Numero Uno:

Why are you going on the World Race?

The short answer is…

God told me too. Is that enough of an explanation for you?…

No? I didn’t think so!

I’m going on the World Race because God called me too it. He has blessed me in a thousand and one ways and I want to spend my life living for him, with the desire to further his kingdom. I’m going to go and build churches, teach VBS, love the unlovables, befriend sinners, and love every stinkin’ moment of it. The World Race is going to force me to change, which will be a good thing! God is changing me into who he needs me to be. God has shown me how much He wants to use me to further his Kingdom, to spread his love and to be his hands and feet. And I am excited to live that out. And I want to break stereotypes! People don’t need to see Christians as condemning hypocrites, especially those who hardly known the good news of Jesus. They need to see us as loving, accepting, God-fearing people, and I believe I can be an accurate representation of that type of Christian. I may be a Christian, but it is my relationship with God that I hold to the utmost importance, not the rules that a religion believes I should follow.

Question Two!

Why are you going to do a mission trip in another country? We need help right here in America…

You, my friend, are quite accurate! America does need help. America does need a Godly impact.

I can answer this question in two parts.

1: There are tons and tons of local ministry opportunities for people to join in almost every city here in America. From food pantries to soup kitchens to the big brothers/big sisters type organizations. Here in America, yes – we totally need a Godly revival, but so do other places! According to ABC news, here, 83 percent of Americans claim to be Christians! So if we have such an OVERWHELMING number of Christians here, those soup kitchens, those homeless shelters, they should be operating at high gear! I plan on going to places where there is sometimes only 1 percent of the population that claim to be Christians. I plan to go to the places where Christian outreach ministries are struggling due to the lack of a Christian population to support them. Here in America, we have that overwhelming population. Do they choose to help? I’m not sure. Are they able to function to their fullest extent? I don’t know. But we do have 83% of the population who could help, most other places don’t! So please, don’t look at this trip and think that I don’t care about the lost or struggling souls here in America. Because I do! I’ve just been given the opportunity to share my heart for Jesus and spread love to  more than just Americans.

2: God called me to this. God requested this of me. And God demands obedience. In Acts 4, Peter and John are teaching about Jesus. They are told multiple times that they must stop, and were even put into jail for talking about Jesus and the resurrection.

Acts 4:18-20 says this…

“Once again the leaders called in Peter and John. They commanded them not to speak or teach at all in Jesus’ name. But Peter and John replied, ‘Judge for yourselves, whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.’ “

While it may not be a hugely popular decision with some people who are close to me, it is more important for me to listen to what God is calling me to. God knows my future. He wrote it. Heck, he wrote me into existence! How can I not listen to him and be vigilant with his requests?! I want to be called a good and faithful servant. Not a servant to a person on this earth, regardless of their good intentions, but of God. God has called us to serve here on earth, and that is exactly what I plan to do! God put it on my heart to go on the World Race and that is exactly what I am going to do. One backpack, sleeping in a tent for a year…all for the Glory of God. All to further His kingdom. Because I am working towards what is eternal, not what is merely a blip in time. If God had called me to do something here in America, I would stay and do it. But he didn’t, at least not right now. He called me to this and I will follow him.

And last but not least folks…

What’s in it for you?

Nothing.

Sike!!

Everything.

I will learn to truly serve other people. I will be a witness of God’s love, Jesus’ sacrifice, and the peace that comes from a relationship with God. I will get a chance to work for my Heavenly father. Ya know, helping further God’s kingdom, bringing people to him… its a family business!

(Come and go with me to my fathers house!…yup, you’re singing it now!)

But really. I don’t know what I will get out of it. But I am not going into it with the mindset of what I will get out of it. I am going into it with the idea that I will get to work for God, to spread love, to serve and to grow in Christ. That’s what’s in it for me, and probably a ton more that God has planned, and I won’t know that until it happens.

But stay tuned!

I hope this at least some what answers your questions! If you have more, I would love to answer them for you. Just click on the “Call me, Beep me!” link and get in touch with me! And yes, that is from kim possible!

In the end, the best way I can sum it up to you is… I’m going on the World Race to love on people because that is what God called me to do and I just want to be obedient to his calls for me.

God Bless!
