Coming after the one was our ministry the whole time we were in Nepal. We went to many unreached places. It was an occurring theme of the month – always praying that we would find the one God wants us to talk to that day.
One afternoon we followed a pastor of a nearby church to make a home visit. He told us he wanted to go to this man who has severe epilepsy and demonic dreams. We go and pray over this man.
We go back 2 days later, this time in the morning, to visit. He wasn’t there but had gone out to work. So we waited around for a little bit because we were offered tea and unsure if the Spirit wanted to lead us to another home. As we were waiting two younger men come over to us. They spoke English! So a few of us get to talking to them, asking questions, just making conversation so they can work on their English.
A few minutes later, we were told to that we were making a house visit to a nearby brother who has an “untouchable” hanging out there. So we invited the two men to join us. (Neither of them are Christians but still wanted to join.) We get to this home, everyone filing into this small room. The man we came to talk to is a Social Worker and wanted to talk about how America got to be so powerful. Totally not what we were expecting but we answered as best as we could. We tried to wedge in the gospel but he was not interested at all. He ended up leaving in the middle of this conversation because he had a meeting. A little bummed out, we start talking to the “untouchable” man. He had the kindest eyes and smile, a heart aching for something more. We began to share with him but he also had to leave. Left in the room at this point was my team, our translator and one of the gentlemen that followed us there, M.
We knew that the Lord would show up and do something incredible because we had gotten to share the good news multiple times and we were going to keep on sharing! We keep pressing in and interceding for each other.
M was very intrigued the whole time we were talking to the other men. He sat in the corner, silently, watching and listening. Then we turn to him and ask him what he believes in. He told us his family doesn’t practice any religion (WOHOO! This is hard to come by in Nepal.) We ask if we could share what we believe. He agreed. We asked if he had ever heard of Jesus before – he hadn’t. So Shelby began to paint this beautiful picture of the gospel. Everyone in the room was leaning into listen, as if it was the first time we’d heard it. Shelby finishes sharing and we ask him if he wants to begin a relationship with Jesus today. He told us that he wants to but first go and ask his father/family, if they said yes than so would he. We told him that it had to be a personal decision, not one that his family can make for him. After sitting on it for a few minutes, he decided to say yes! YES! So we sat for a long time celebrating while he asked us all kinds of questions about who this Jesus guy is.
He told us after we were finished, he would be RUNNING home to tell his family about Jesus because they had never heard of Him either. He was so confident that Jesus would touch his familys’ hearts as He had touched his. We were in shock. We were jumping for joy. We had just gained a new brother! And already wanting to be an evangelist!
The Holy Spirit was in that room, moving mountains. But He wasn’t finished yet.
M had left to go eat lunch so we were hanging out, waiting to leave. In walks these two teenage boys and one girl – two dating and a friend. Hmm… what a perfect opportunity to share. As we begin to have small conversation with them, the two boys leave the room not interested in what we have to say. So we turn our focus solely to the girl and ask her some questions. Come to find out her family is Hindu but they don’t practice. We ask her if she wants to accept Jesus. She told us she couldn’t, people would make fun of her and her boyfriend might not enjoy it. OH GIRL! We got to share so much truth with her. We even told our translator to not listen because it was ‘girl talk time’. It was so sweet watching the Lord soften her heart to open up to us and the fear she had been walking in. We give her some time to think about it. She said she is ready to say yes, regardless of what her boyfriend says about it. COME ON JESUS!
We weren’t even planning on going to this home. We planned on going to check in on the man from a couple days before. But God knew that we would be at that home. I pray I can always be listening to the still small whisper and obey it every single time.
Living in Asia for the past two months have been frustrating and difficult with sharing the gospel. It is illegal to share about Jesus. We ran into countless people who had never even heard of Jesus before. My heart was broken more times than ever before because I finally realized how important it is to spread the gospel.
It is literally every persons’ life or death.
So why not share?
- About most countries in Asia – the man runs the household. He chooses everything, especially religion. If you go against your father/families beliefs, you are kicked out of your home and community. This explains why both of these two took so long and walked in so much fear to say yes. It’s a big deal.
