The dictionary definition of the word home is “the place where one lives permanently.” My life right now isn’t very permanent. I’m in Guatemala kind of long term, but in another month, I leave for another country. Then for the next three months I hop back and forth between Thailand and Myanmar; and my last three months on the race, I hop back and forth between Swaziland and South Africa. There’s not much permanence there. So had you asked me a few weeks ago, where my home was, I would have definitively stated “Memphis, Tennessee.” If I was feeling a little sappy I might’ve said something like “with my brothers and sisters, because wherever they are is home” (because as you may or may not know, my siblings are all my best friends and my greatest treasures). If you were to ask me today though, my answer would look a lot differently, because something I’ve learned… nothing of this earth is permanent. The house in Memphis, Tennessee that I’ve called home for the last several years, will one day no longer be there. The city Memphis in and of itself, may not be where I live in 5 years. Nothing here is permanent. But I have a new home. Its the most permanent thing you’ll ever find.
My new home is the presence of the Lord.
The presence of the Lord is constant. It’s with me in Memphis or in Guatemala. It will be with me in Thailand and Myanmar. It will even go all the way to Swaziland with me. Making the presence of the Lord my new home was key in the fact that no matter where I am, I’m completely home. His presence is with me every second of every day so that means I can go anywhere in the world and feel 100% at home. Honestly guys, this is the best news literally ever. No matter where I am, I’m home. I get excited just talking about it because this isn’t limited just to me. If you decide to make the presence of the Lord your home and to dwell with Him and abide in Him daily, no matter where you go, you’re home. That’s honestly the best news ever because when we are “home,” that’s our safe place. Home is the place where you find rest. Making the presence of the Lord your home means making the Lord your place of rest, making Him your safe place. When the Lord is your safe place, DANG SON, there is absolutely nothing better. Because if I get to Myanmar and God asks me to stay there, I don’t have to worry about home or not being where I feel safe or anything related to that, because my home is literally just wherever the Lord has me at the moment. He is always always with me.
Exodus 33:14
“And he said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'”
Make the presence of the Lord your home. It’ll be the best thing yet. I promise.
Love y’all,
K
