While engagement is a cause for celebration, it’s also a season for preparation, and it sure looks a lot different on the Race than in the movies!
One vital and beautiful aspect of an engagement while on the Race is all the wise council I have available to me!! Emily Alpert and Karen Harrison will be sharing with me all their knowledge from their own experiences and I’m super excited to learn all I can from each of them, as they’re both in different walks of marriage!! There are also tons of devotionals and premarital questions to do that all shed more light onto what marriage really is and how it can look.
The past month we were fasting wifi, and airplane mode for those with international data, as a squad and that was more difficult for me, to say the least. It’s not that we’re in constant contact, I’d say I do a great job of staying present, but my top love language is quality time and not getting that, through phone call as it is, really started to take a toll on me. But with the new month, new ministry schedule, and his new schedule as well I’ve been able to catch him up on all the things I was learning from talks or devotionals, etc and we’ve gotten some much needed conversations in as well! While there’s always more to learn, we’ve discovered a lot about the details that could’ve been overlooked and are learning with every new opportunity!
Something else challenging about being on the Race during this was the initial feelings of “there’s so much we don’t know and can’t discuss now!” But I’ve found that as I give each major (and minor) detail to the Lord along with my worries over them, He not only comforts but provides! Financial trouble has always concerned me and in my going to the Lord with that through prayer, He answered my worry with assurance of a job when I return to the States!! PTL! He provides the tangible as well as the answers to His children whom He loves, amen!
With so many plans and details to be arranged during a call like this it can become hard to decipher the line of preparation and preoccupation on the future. Although with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and a beautiful, Spirit filled and led team it’s been exactly what I think it should be, both exciting and sobering with much more to come!
