I want to tell you a little story about an awesome God thing that happened the other day.
I love watching my squad grow. I love seeing new people added to our Facebook page, seeing new blogs pop up, and getting to know these amazing men and women of God. We have only known each other for maybe two months, maximum, some, just joining our squad yesterday, but the relationships we are forming through text, emails, and video chat are incredible. They are my brothers and sisters in Christ, everyone already calling each other “fam.” We are already sharing laughs, inside jokes, and intimate details about home life, our past, and things that we normally wouldn’t tell anyone outside of the comfortable realm of people in our community that we see and talk to on a daily basis.
The other day, a total God thing happened.
Someone new had joined our squad! Everyone was so stoked! When you are accepted into the World Race, you are added to a group Facebook page. Usually, after you are added, you receive multiple friend requests from your squad mates. When this particular girl was added, Kelsey, I sent her a friend request. Nothing out of the ordinary… until it popped up saying we had a mutual friend. Small world. Well, this mutual friend just happened to be my youth pastor, Dan. Whoa. Okay. I messaged Kelsey and asked her how she knew Dan. Turns out, Dan was her youth pastor in Southern California! Wait, what? How cool is that?! Out of the almost 320 million people in the United States, God chose to put Kelsey and I on the same squad. I love that God put a mutual person, Dan, between us. God could have had every single person on my squad not know each other, have no mutual friends, or be distant and skeptical about forming relationships with each other. Of course that is not what God wants though.
One thing God is already teaching me about the World Race is that you need to be all in with your squad. Don’t be hesitant about getting to know these people. This is your family. These are your brothers and sisters in Christ.
To my amazing squad mates, thank you. Thank you for loving me and praying for me and being such an amazing fam. I love y’all and I can’t wait to spend my time around the world with y’all.
