Can you imagine…. “What’s with the sheep?”
Can you imagine everywhere you look seeing shrines, temples, and Buddha’s. It makes me think I’m still in the Old Testament with baal. It bothers me does it bother you? Maybe because you haven’t seen it:
Can you imagine meeting someone who has never heard of Christianity!
Can you imagine seeing a 150ft laying Buddha?
Can you imagine seeing millions of people praying to a statue or dead monk?
I CAN.
Thailand continues to be the busiest and most exciting month! I have had some great chances at our ministry this month to preach, teach, and pray. We are currently working at a school very similar to last month in Costa Rica teaching English. It is rare that a school even allows Christians to come in and teach and be so open about Jesus Christ. I teach three younger grades English, so a little less than 2 classes a day. The kids are in great need of just being loved and are always so eager to hear what we have to say. This last Sunday I got the privilege to preach at the local church. It was a great experience as everyone in the church would have been Buddhist at one point or another. Our pastor who is our ministry contact served as my translator during the sermon. He has a great testimony and was even a Buddhist monk for a week! I spoke on obedience and faith from James 1 and 2, which I believe many Thai people struggle with due to their culture. It was great to be able to worship, pray and talk with them. Lincoln and Stephanie two of my awesome teammates gave their testimony, which was awesome especially since my sermon was only 30 minutes! We have had many chances to pray with the people at church, and in the community. We had a prayer night last Friday in which three school girls just happened to come out of nowhere to see the girls on the team. We quickly involved them in our night and were able to pray for them. They were around middle school age but had never heard of Christianity before! There’s only one Christian teacher at the school, which just goes to show how one sided the culture is when it comes to religion. One of the girls did know a little about Christianity and asked the rather simple question but confusing without a basic knowledge “What’s with the sheep?” It was a great experience to be able to share with this simple analogy of God our father as the shepherd of His flock. It was really touching to see how God had brought these girls to us opening up the opportunity to witness to them. God is good.
Can you imagine eating dried squid, beetles, or pork fat with hair?
Can you imagine before watching a movie in theaters you need to stand and give respect to the king of Thailand.
I am now back in Bangkok with the other logistics coordinator (Seth Powell) trying to figure out India visas and travel arrangements to Cambodia. It’s not working. We went today to the India embassy to get visas only to get rejected for not having all the right information. India is very picky at this time on visas making obtaining 46 not easy. We will try again tomorrow, hopefully as we need to get them finished in order to go to India in March. So please pray for us as it has been a busy month with budgeting, debrief, ministry, and logistics.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support it doesn’t go unnoticed.
