I Want to be like a Drunkard! “You say, What!?”

I recently read a book called “Smith Wigglesworth on the anointing”, in which I very much enjoyed and would say it would have to be one of my top favorites right next to “Screwtape Letters” (C.S. Lewis) and “Forgotten God” (Francis Chan).  Although I had heard this analogy before, reading it again sparked a deeper longing in my heart to become more passionate for Christ in me. The analogy compares a drunkard with Christians filled with the Holy Spirit. Of course, just like any analogy it can be looked at in a different perspective and over analyzed to expose its flaws. With this said I ask that everyone looks at this analogy in a more simplistic manner and to not think that I literally want to become a drunkard!

The points I like about this analogy are:

·         A drunkard has become unconscious of themselves but is controlled by the forces of alcohol. I want to be filled with the Holy Spirit so much that I lose sight of my own desires, passions, and dreams and replace them for what God would have me become (Phil. 3:1-11).

·         A drunkard has a physical and emotional addiction to alcohol, building a strong and almost irresistible desire for more. I want to be filled so much with the Holy spirit that my desire for holiness out ways any desire of the flesh. The desire to conquer evil with good and stand up under temptation through God’s provision and faithfulness (1 Cor. 10:13).

·         A true drunkard is ruled by his alcoholism and listens and obeys to its every beckoning command. When I am filled with the Holy Spirit I will know his will in my life and have a choice to obey Him. I want to be filled by the Holy Spirit so much that I will not have to dwell on the “what if’s,” or “Can I?,” or any other doubts but in faith act and do as a Child of God and in all authority and power that Christ has given me (Acts. 1:8, John 14:12-15, Math. 28:17-20).

The month of November in Costa Rica was a time of growth for me as well a time to serve. We finished the month strong and made really good relations at the school, church and boy’s home we worked at. Later in the month we took the boys to the movies which of course they loved and just spent time with them in entertainment as well as praying for all their current and future needs.  There were many people there to teach me and help me refresh from the struggles of mission work.

We never made it to the beach in Costa Rica, but from the looks of it Thailand will be just as beautiful. We made it to Youth with a Mission (YWAM) base in Bangkok safely and in one piece at 4:00pm today, nearly three days of straight traveling and over 27hrs of flying. God is so faithful and has always provided in our travels despite the round about ways of getting here. We flew from Costa Rica to Atlanta –Los Angelas –Hong Kong and finally Thailand! Not the ideal but I’m sure it was the cheapest. We will spend roughly a week here at YWAM going through a debrief of Central America as well as orientation of Thailand culture and beliefs.

I hope everyone had a splendid Thanksgiving and enough turkey for yourself and me. This month we will be working with YWAM in Rayong. My handpicked and roasted coffee beans tasted great last month but was still not quite the world’s best cup of coffee.

Prayer Requests:

  • ·         Pray that our team will be refreshed during this time of debrief and have clear minds to evaluate and process last month.
  • ·         Pray that the team will be able to move on and focus on our ministries in Thailand as goodbyes are frequent and hard on the mission field.
  • ·         Pray that I will continue to grow in oneness with the Holy Spirit and listen and obey His will
  • ·         Praise God that we made it to Thailand and for all the blessings He has given me these past few months
  • Pray that God will continue to open doors and opportunities to share his Word. In a hostel in Costa Rica God did just that when a stranger came up with his burdens of finances, allowing us to witness and pray for Him.
